Default Improper bedding?

Yes, you read it right, improper bedding. And I don't mean a rumble in the sack one drunken Saturday night!

Went to go bed my brakes tonight and after for driving 25-30min without touching the brakes, I figured it was good enough to park it for the night. Looked at the rotors & saw hot spots, all evenly around the rotor. Of course this corresponds with ABS pulsations, now that I think about it.

3 moderately heavy stops from 50mph to 5mph to bring 'em up to temp.
4 heavy stops from 65-70mph to 5mph.

Important phone call came in; had to take it. 10min down. Brakes were not used during this 10min period; engine stopped with trans in gear.

After phone call, 10 stops from 70mph to 5mph, very hard. Most were enough to get the ABS pulsing quite a bit.

25-30min cool off, driving around for 25mi or so without touching the brakes (this was difficult, but nonetheless accomplished), mainly on highway. Rotors were cool to the touch after this.

It's been awhile since I've bedded pads but I can't quite remember what ramifications there might be to the hotspots. Does it mean that I have pad transfer to those spots? Will they go away soon enough? Or should I re-bed tomorrow, WITHOUT dipping into ABS territory?

I'm doing this now, before I put in the stainless lines & flush old OE fluid away (killing two birds with one stone).

Thoughts/comments?

My disks almost always show heat marks based on the cooling passages inside. If that's all you see, I'm not sure you have any problem. It's hard to know from your description.

But when you bed pads/rotors you are supposed to get near ABS but not actually into ABS. That's sort of a lost art these days for those of us without non-ABS cars.

That's actually why I'm kicking myself in the butt--the last Honda I had was not too long ago in 2002--a Civic w/o ABS. I had perfected threshold braking in that car with my 4-pot Wilwoods, but have since gotten a bit rusty doing that!

I'm just hoping that there's no material transfer to the rotor--that'd make for a lot of vibration upon brake application.
