Default KW uppermount issue

Hi guys,

My apologies for asking so many questions lately, but I just got these dampers installed so bear with me here.

I noticed an issue with my rear shocks after my first track day with these dampers.

When I go over bumps on the road, there is a strange sound comming from the direction of the rear shock towers. For those of you have have tried multiple coilovers, it sounds like those shocks that have pillowball top mounts. You get a clunking sound when the shock goes over a bump.

This sound only occured after my track day. I do push the car on the track, but I am still running SO2s, so i think the stress wont be that great considering most of you guys run RA1 and are doing just fine.

Anyone have any tips? The shocks were installed professionally by a very experienced mechanic, so I doubt that is an issue there.

Thanks guys

Were all the bolts torqued down with the suspension loaded? The shocks do make a noise when going over bumps (ie speed bumps) but it's more 'whooshing' than clunking...

Do you not hear it when you drive on the street?

Yeah i have heard the swooshing sounds. Loading the suspension is not a special procedure for this shock right? (not being sarcastic here )

I am thinking, if it is a standard procedure, then Im sure my mechanic has done it.

It's standard procedure when installing all suspensions properly but you can never assume everything is done right! When I installed my first suspension a couple of years ago I didn't know I had to torque the bolts with the suspension loaded and consquently I would get clunking noises all the time. It may or may not be the same issue here but its worth looking into.

I've just takled to him on the phone. It seems that everything was done accordingly...

Its kind of weird that there is this issue. Im really stumped on this one. I highly doubt that the stock tophats are busted after one track day, but I guess there is no way to tell except to take them off....

Anyone else have any suggestions?

I had the same noise, but in my case, it was from the front, and it turned out I was missing the top bushing! I installed them myself and didn't tighten them down sufficiently, so the nut backed all the way off. I would double-check the torque, especially on the rear driver's side. Your mechanic might have had a hard time reaching the top of the shock. Remove the three tiny nuts from the filler neck under the gas cap door and move the filler neck out of the way to reach it.

I think that might be likely what happened. It is the driver side rear that is making the noise from what I can tell. I will bring the car in to get it checked. Thanks guys, Ill keep you guys posted
