Lap timer choices
Hi,
I was wondering what kind of timers do you guys use - and especially the ones for which you find a beacon installed at most races.
From what I've read it seems that the Hotlap is the one to go ahead with. I have looked at the motorcycle units - such as MyChron or Ultra-Lap. For cars it seems that the Longacre and Intercomp units are the most popular though.
Anything else out there that I should looked into?
Thanks,
George
PS: I know that SpeedVentures offers transponder rentals, but I'd like something with a in-car display. Is there such an option for a transponder unit?

Yea, it seems like Intercomp vs. Hotlap. Intercomp seems to be a more compact design, and looks better than the Hotlap timer, in my opinion ... but the fact that almost everyone out there on the track uses Hotlap, and you can share transmitters, I would go with Hotlap...
Here's a site that sells Hotlap timers:

I also use the My-Chron lap timer and find it very useful.
Has anyone else experienced interference from other brands of timer beacons? When my My-Chron beacon is the only unit out there, the timer functions flawlessly. But when an Intercomp beacon is stationed nearby (within a couple of feet) it seems to interfere with my receiver picking up the My-Chron signal reliably. A lap or two might go by with no reception, then a lap or two will show proper reception. This issue has occurred with the beacon running on built-in AA power ("low power") and with a 12v gel cell ("high power").

OK - I guess I'll go with the Intercomp unit. Thanks for all your input.
I found this site that sells it for around $250 (after their 20% discount). Free shipping as well
