Lapping days
I'm looking to see how many of you out there use your good rims on the track (lapping days). I only go maybe 4-5 times a year. Is it worth it having a second set of rims and tires (ie stock ap1 rims and some really sticky tires but not R comps.)I havent reached that point yet.
What you guys/gals think?

The history of my lapping days:
1) OEM wheels and tires when I got the car new
2) Volk CE28N wheels with r-compounds for track, OEM wheels for street
3) Volk CE28N with sticky but 100+ treadwear tires for both street, ax and track
Both sets of wheels are pretty chewed up at this point.

I think it's a good idea to have an extra set since you expect street tires to last at least one year. Which means they're going to see winter, which means rain in my part of the country (well, if we're lucky
) And many sticky or summer tires are not very good rain tires.
If you get a second set you can also have wider front wheels to accommodate wider tires. I want to get to the point where I use the same size tires on all 4 wheels for track, that way you can rotate them all around. Having more even wear they should last longer. I'm not there yet, but that means you may need a larger front sway bar.

stock wheels with re01r for my first few days, then bought another set of ap1 wheels and a used set of toyo ra1 for the track and kept my others for street only.
if you spend some time watching multiple racing forums, you can get a good enough deal that it'll be as cheap or cheaper in the long run to get a second set. i got a second set of ap1 wheels for 200 then found an almost brand new set of RA1 (still had the little whiskers from the mold) for 300, so i've got right at $500 into a really good set of track wheels and tires.
