Default Megan rear bsk install

Working on installing the Megan rear bsk. This is actually my second set.

I'm having a really hard time getting the cotter pin to line up for both top and bottom nuts. I can't remember how I got this to work out the first time around.

Any tricks/suggestions? It seems as if an allen key in either end of the shaft would easily solve this problem. Nylon lock nuts would also make this much easier.

My choices for the trq spec to get the holes in the castle nut to line up are ~15ft-lbs for the lesser, or >90 for the greater. I dont know how much over 90, but REALLY tight.

All this makes me wonder if some of the BSK failures are due to grossly overtightened hardware. The trq spec for the stock part is ~40 ft-lbs. I'd be approaching 3x that on one of the fasteners.

In general I'm not a fan of castle nuts. Two castle nuts on each end of the same shaft may be the worst idea ever.

put a thin washer under the castle nut to see if that helps with aligning the hole

I used nylocks (12 x 1.25). They make things so much easier, and allow for accurate torque specs.

I still wonder if significant over tightening has contributed to failures.

I replaced mine prophylactically as they occasionally break. It has been suggested that the aftermarket bsk's, any of them, should be considered a wear item.

Mine had 12 track days, 4 autocrosses, and about 5-6k street miles. I just installed coilovers, and figured I would go ahead and replace these since I needed an alignment.

They probably didn't need to be replaced at this point, but I consider it relatively cheap insurance.

EDIT: BTW blackbullet, what was your highest torque spec on each side?
