Default Miata with F20 engine

Check it out. Sorry if this is a repost in this forum.

With a few mods, I think it can be like an Elise...

Nice swap. Why'd he ruin it with such a ghetto mounting job for the NO2?

In OTC 2003 there was a turbo miata from Flyin Miata that had 350 HP. It was dubbed the anti-miata because it was extremely fast on the straights but very unstable in the corners. The opposite of a miata.
Ry's (stock engine) S2000 turned faster laptimes on some of the tracks and I believe Dave's SC S2000 was faster on all the tracks.

A race-stripped properly setup F20C/Miata would be a very capable track car. You could get the weight down to around 2050-2100 pounds without too much work and with 200 RWHP, it would be very fun. My friend runs a turbo Miata on the track with 220 RWHP and it keeps up easily with P-cars (944Ts, 911s and 996s) that his friends run. He runs away from me in my NA Spec Miata (95 RWHP). I think the FI Miata engine solution is better because they are very well developed (reliable stock up to about 220-240 RWHP), and when you blow it (you will eventually blow a motor on a track car), much less expensive to replace than the F20C.

We were on the track last weekend with some Ferrari 360 challenge cars and a Ford GT, and they would pull away in the straights, but he could keep up, and sometimes gain, in the corners.

What about chassis rigidity? I always hear about the S2000's stiff frame and how much stronger it is than most other convertibles. Wouldn't that get lost in a miata? I mean given the same engines, wouldn't the structural engineering of the S make up for some of the weight savings of the F20Miata? Or would roll cages just negate all that anyway?

Yeah, the miata won't be as rigid as an S2000. It also doesn't allow tires that are as big. I would say that the weight penalty of the S2000 is just the price you pay for those advantages.

I always wondered why Lotus didn't put an F20C in the Elise. Wouldn't that make an interesting car.
