Mirai Lithium Battery Review
In fact, my Shorai was able to start the car after idling for less than 5 minutes. Go figure.

Did you get the recommended charger as well? I was hoping the usual Battery Tender would work, but it seems these require a proprietary charger.

The usual battery tender works. I've been using this one without problems:

Anyone have any followup reviews of any of the following lithium iron batteries:
Shorai
Ballistic EVO2 (12 or 16 cell?)
Mirai
I seem to recall some issues with the Ballistic batteries a while back, but maybe those were a previous version? My Odyssey PC680 died after being deep cycled on accident too many times, so I'm in the market for a new battery.

I'm now running the Shorai LFX36A3-BS12, though it's only been in the car since last Friday. It spins the starter faster than my Deka ETX12, and seemed to work great through last weekend's two-day event, including keeping the datalogger and shiftlight powered up between runs.

While standard lead-acid chargers can be used with Shorai LFX when needed, the BMS01 is specifically designed to charge, store, maintain, balance, and diagnose your LFX battery.

• Recharge using conventional lead-acid battery chargers*
*Must only be used with a lead-acid battery charger without desulfation (recovery) feature
So if you have a Battery Tender your good to go. What they can't have is a charger that prevent's sulfation(in a lead acid battery), that will destroy a Lithium Iron battery.
My Battery Tender Jr's don't have the desulfation (recovery) feature.
I use Shorai on my dirt bike(two years now) and my street bike(1 week) and on the dirt bike I don't put a float charger on it all winter long and it starts right up no matter how long its been sitting in the garage or how cold it is(Sacramento).
