Default Motion sickness

Who gets sick from their own driving? At our local gokart track I start feeling woozy after 5-6 ~15min sessions. Any tips besides experience to overcome this?

I've never experienced it yet in my S2000, but I have felt what you described when gokarting too. Weird.

I used to instruct security driving technique in big American sedans. We'd put two students in the back seats and one up front. We even briefed them to let us know if they started to feel queasy because once it starts it can ruin your whole day and make learning almost impossible. About 20% of our students would start to feel motion sickness when riding in the back seat. We always kept generic Dramamine available at the water cooler for anyone that needed it. You will probably get used to the karts and stop getting sick, but some people never adjust. I actually got air sick during my first T-37 flight even though I had been a helicopter pilot for four years prior. The flight doctor said I'd probably be fine and sure enough I never had it again. Another student in my class never adjusted and washed out from air (motion) sickness.

Hah I meant in the s2k but it's the same with karting. We are driving our cars on the gokart track. Didn't think it was safe to use Dramamine but I'll try it next.

Hopefully I can adjust. This has been my 5th lapping day in the last 7 months.

Just need to adapt... I got sick on my half my DA-20 (small civilian aircraft) rides at initial flight screening and on my first 3 T-6 rides at UNT. After a few days in the barany chair I adapted but the aerospace physiology guys are convinced that I would have adapted in a few more rides without it. You have the advantage of using meds to help you adapt (a luxury military flyers don't get) so just pop some dramamine and keep at it.

Wow, you must have been flying in the military for quite some time! What kind of chopper did you fly?

And I agree with what rob said. As soon as you feel a hint of motion sickness, stop. You may be able to save yourself for the rest of the day. Get too sick though, and any subsequent tries will get you sick quickly.

Oh I forgot to mention, breathing control. In slow and deep through your nose and out slowly from your mouth... helps a lot!

I used to flight instruct at the Air Force Academy in the T-41 and T3 for flight screening. It was great soloing all those guys.

I flew Hueys (UH-1H) and Kiowas (OH-58 or Jet Ranger) in the Army as a Warrant Officer.

Ginger root pills - available in the vitamin section of most stores
They work for motion sickness.
I sail with an OB/GYN and he says they also recommend them for pregnant women with morning sickness, so they are safe.
You can also drink Vernor's or other real ginger ale.
Skip the Dramamine as it will dull your senses.
