I've bolted mine to the passenger side crossmember. Basically it sits under the passenger's legs, but short folk will be resting a leg on it. Grr. I've also seen one mounted lengthwise behind the windscreen. Definitely don't mount it on the A-Pillar!

I was under the impression that it was good practice to have a small extinguisher in the car when you track it, in the unlikely event that something causes a fire while you're out on the track.

That doesn't sound like a very good idea either - in the event of a frontal impact, ouch! Floor mounting sounds much safer.

Check out Doug's car the next time you see him, it's right behind the video camera.

I did a search for fire extinguisher mounts, and i found this one, so I'll revive this one I was thinking, can't you mount a small 16 ounce one..big enough for a small car fire, kinda under the driver seat on the floor? It won't impede on the driver, but you can easily reach down and quick release it for use in case of a fire? I want to install one soon because I have a SC installed now, and with the extra oil lines and all, I want to have one just in case. Please let me know if this is a good or bad idea

Where it's mounted doesn't matter so much as how. You can ratchet a bracket down with some sheetmetal screws, but in an impact of, say, 80Gs, the 2lb fire extinguisher is going to feel like 160lbs smashing into your legs/arms/face when those screws get torn out. I mounted mine behind the my non-existent passenger seat.

Another place to consider is to just mount it in the trunk. You can metal tie the extinguisher bracket to the rear stock strut tower bar.

I wouldn't worry about the oil lines for the SC. I would worry about the oil filter....a loose one will spray your headers.

Makes sense. What brand/model do you use? Thanks!

I have first hand experience in this area and the fire damage to show for it. Nothing like a fine mist of oil spraying on a red hot header to start a fire. A basic extinguisher is a relatively inexpensive prevention tool...I could have saved my VTEC solenoid / harness if I had one.

Also...the 80mph OTE from oil coated right side tires wasn't very fun either

Is there a cheaper alternative to that unit? Like another unit that sprays the same stuff...Even if it's ugly I don't care
