I've been looking at getting a mounted camera to use on the track and canyon driving. I'm debating between a MiniDV or DVD camera. I like the convenience of the DVD cameras that writes directly to a DVD, but I was unsure on if they would skip too much.

Anyone tried the DVD video cameras mounted on the S2000? If so, are you experiencing issues with jarring with the DVD?

Thanks,
Gary

No experience with the DVD cameras... However if you are driving at anything other than a lazy clip expect a lot of turbulence in the passenger cabin. Its easy enough to transfer footage to a DVD-R, so I'd go the MiniDV route in a heartbeat.

I get the occasional drop from DV with the track video i take, I would imagine a DVD Cam would be severely hampered.

Yah, that's what I was thinking about the DVD, and confirms it. DVD would skip way too much on a track. Especially, if davepk is seeing drop with even MiniDV.

Also, I just realized that the DVD is stored as DVD format with MPEG 2 encoding, so it can immediately be played in a DVD player. I was thinking it was still storing the same format as MiniDV. I would rather have the MiniDV which stores in higher quality, and not as lossless.

Hopefully, you meant lossEY. Higher quality means less compression and less loss of details.
