Default NASA Time Trials Discussion

The NASA Champions thread was getting a bit off topic. I figure we should have our own thread to discuss anything related specifically to NASA TT.

Besides the NASA Midwest and GL events, when are people planning on showing up to Mid-Ohio? I was thinking about ITR Expo and/or maybe the 3balls racing event.

Does the AUT cooling plate take a point as an intake? I imagine if I run an intake in addition to the aut cooling plate, that's still only +1.

I don't believe it takes points. With that said I had already taken points for an intake on mine so I didn't pay attention to that. I hope to have mine in TTB at sebring in june as it's first trial event with the K24. I did the points. If I take the wing off and shift around 7500 I think it'll just sneak into B.

Can't wait to see how the K24 will do. What do you mean by shifting around 7500? Do you make too much power above 7500...and if so, do they GPS dyno in your region?

I'm gonna do a bunch of dyno relcasses on it and move the rev limiter around to make the HP I need for specific classes. I'm sure I could sneak it back into C but I'd probably have to pull so much power out I'd be shifting in the 6k range.

That sure looks like an intake to me. If you're not taking a point for intake yet I would think this would add one since it directs cold air to the intake. Stock = no point, that cooling plate is not stock. Having said that it will only be an issue if a competitor challenges it or if you get called in for a random check (I think I read that NASA is going to start doing that with TT).

Yeah, I guess it could be considered as modifying the "vents".

4) Modification of the BTM air intake/box, air filter location, air piping to the turbo/
supercharger/intercooler/throttle body/carburetor, or hood/fascia/fender air inlet(s),
outlets, or vents +1 (air filter upgrade alone—0 pts.)
I'll probably run an intake anyway and maybe add this on top. Anyone have data on intakes? I'm thinking of running a custom stepped setup from starting at 4" with a reducer at the throttle body.

I have some desire/aspirations to run NASA TT next year, but I'm pretty sure I'll be stuffed deep into TTB. My honest opinion is that I want to take my fun setup and toss it into a highly competitive group to see how I perform with the current configuration. Based on the times, I don't think I can be a top runner unless the car is gutted and puts down some major power on tracks like Autoclub Speedway (ACS). Top runner ran 2 seconds faster than the fastest S2k Challenge driver... However, tracks like Buttonwillow and Big Willow (WSIR), I think there is a chance to be a top runner if I get my act together.

After talking to Patinum on tire setup, I didn't realize you could cut points if you run a smaller tire size on stickier tires. I assume 225/45/17 to 235/40/17 R-comp (NT01, TD) is better than 255/40/17 Street tire (+2)

After doing some research, I feel like this would be a competitive setup for an AP2 in TTC:

Springs - 2
Shocks - 3 (no ext reservoirs)
Wing - 4
Tires - 7 (255 NT01 class R comp)
Exhaust - 2
Test pipe - 1

Total = 19 points + whatever free mods you would like to run.

Getting as close to the minimum weight is also very important.
