Default Need advice on a good helmet

Hey all:

Am looking to pick up a helmet for some driving schools I will be attending soon. Can you give me some general guidance as to what I should be looking for? Good/bad models, price, and where to get them. I heard there's a good place online but I forgot the URL.

Thanks!!!

og racing is located in Manasas, they should have helmets you can try on for size.

www.ogracing.com

Also, I would recommend an SA rated helment over an M (motorcycle) if you are doing a track event. I would also recommend a full face, especially in an open top car!

Check with our sponsor Ben at Bulletproof Automotive, very good prices and service. Several of us bought Bieffe helmets from him. The Bieffe Predator is very lightweight and I personally find it very comfortable.

What kinda driving schools? Autocross? Lapping days?

If it's just autocross you can get a $100 Shoei helmet (M2000 compliant).

For Road racing and such you need a SA helmet. And I recommend Bell.

Thanks! Sorry to bring this dead horse up again, but....what is the difference between all the different helmet standards?

Will be using it primarily for high-performance driving schools and some autox events. Any Bell in particular that you rec.?

As a genius on the board once said, "If you have a Walmart head, buy a Walmart helmet." IMHO, buy the helmet that will protect your head the best and spend the extra $100 if you have to. Good brake pads are $200, track tires will cost you $400, so why scrimp on saving your own life? Plus, the helmet will last longer than anything else you buy for the track.

As someone already pointed out, Bulletproof has the best prices I can find on Biefe helmets and they are excellent quality. Several people I know have Predators and F1's. I have the Simpson Voyager, which is also very good.

There is some disagreement on the board regarding open-face vs. closed-face helmets. Open-face has the advantage of lower prices, better visibility, and ease of use with glasses/sunglasses. Closed-face is a bit safer, for obvious reasons.

No worries - I won't be skimping on this one. I definitely am getting a closed-face model. Just my subjective preference.

Thanks for the info - although I do have a Wal-Mart brain at times, I'll go for the upmarket helmet!

Biefe? Haven't heard of them - will have to research them.

I have a Predator (SA2000, light weight, great fit). I've used it all season and am very happy with it. Bought it from www.helmetcity.com. If Bulletproof had offered them when I purchased mine I'd have gone with them!

Good luck!

I checked out Helmet City - great selection! BUT, the prices at OG Racing (www.ogracing.com) seem to be a lot better.

I've got to go in and get fitted also....No sense in getting something that doesn't fit right....
