Default Need Advice On Tool Box For Tire Trailer

i bought the utility trailer from harbor freight(same one most people have). now i am looking for a tool box to mount on it. the best/cheapest i have found so far is at lowes, $169 for a 41" aluminum truck box. the box is nice its a kobalt brand but is maufactured by better built so its good quality. problem is a while ago some one posted that he picked up some thing like this for $40. so do i spend another month looking for this $40 box or do i plunk down the 170. what do you use and what did it cost. also im having trouble accessing the archives, how did you mount the box, to the wood, to the trailer. sorry for all the question, i hate making mistakes the first time.

I've been very happy with my Contico Tuff Truck Bin, available at Home Depot or WalMart for about $40 It measures 37x 21x 20" and has been in use for two years without issues. It's been completely water tight in several south Florida downpours and has two lockable tabs. The version that comes with a built in latch and lock is about $15 more, but I prefer the simpler one.

He probably added that panel. I have the same trailer and box, no complaints about either. I laid a piece of plywood down over the whole trailer for the bed, screwed the box down and I mount the tires stacked in 2's on their side.

Yes, I made the rear panel from some scrap exterior plywood I had lying around. The trailer is the 12" wheel Harbor Freight model 90153-1VGA. It's listed at $249 right now, but it often goes on sale for under $200.

Here's a link to a thread on tire trailer construction for some tips on building the trailer: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...4654&hl=trailer

BTW, my trailer is still going strong, though I've had to replace the wheel bearings earlier this year.

I use this trailer:

For the extra $50, you get the triangulated tongue and the diamond plate top. (I made a cooler mount for the tongue.) You'll spend close to that for the plywood and hardware with the other trailer. I got mine new on eBay for $220 delivered to my front door.

I also removed all the helper springers and run with the main spring only. The trailer actually moves on the suspension now!

+1 on the Contico box. Mine has worked out well.
