Need help on shocks for autocross
I need some advice on shocks for autocross. I want to stay is AS and I have a Grendon Sway bar and BBS wheels on the new Kumho V710's.
I have done searches on the site and not found much info.
What are the best shocks to use. I mainly autocross in the Southern California area on asphalt but I want to go to Nationals some day.
I have heard that Penske's and Moton's might not be legal anymore for stock class. Is this true?
Koni sport revalved double adjustables seemed to have gone quite up in price when I got a quote recently. Does the $2,300 price seem correct?
What are your opinions on the Koni double adjustables vs Penskes vs Motons?
Thanks,
Kathy

"WOuldn't the BBS wheels put you out of stock class right away? I don't know of any 16" BBS fitments with the right offset."
She probably has the optional JDM 6 spoke BBS wheels that are the correct offsets and cost about $2000 for a used set, when you can find them.
I haven't heard of anybody using Koni DA's for autocross yet. I have a set of Koni SA's that I expect are about 90-95% as good as the high dollar DA's. The Koni SA's cost <$700 per set of 4.
Sounds like you're on the right track for setting up for competitive autocross with the swaybar and wheels. You didn't mention what tires you're using. That would be next IMO.
Hoosiers or Kumhos autocross compounds are what you need. You might wait on the Hoosiers, it looks like A3S05's are going to be available in April. Kumho 710's are the hot tires right now, even though they aren't yet available in the 245/45/16 size yet. Some drivers on 710's are using the 225/50/16 size all around and some have gone to the 265/45/16 size in the rear.
Penskes, Motons, and JRZ's (one you didn't mention) are the ultimate in shocks, but unless you've got a lot of miles on your stock shocks, you can be plenty competitive with the stock shocks. Especially with a stiff sway bar and autocross tires.
The high end DA's cost between $4000 and $5000. Then you need to get them installed, possibly get them revalved to meet the unique characteristics of an S2000, and find a place to mount the remote nitrogen accumulators. You also need a way to accurately pressurize the remote accumulators. Those components can cost another $300-$400. As far as I know there's nothing that would make any of the DA shocks illegal for stock class.
Look in the FAQs for this forum, there's an excellent thread on autocross setup that will answer most if not all of your Q's.

Penskes and Motons both can be legal in Stock category. The top 5 (and 6 of the top 10) places at Nationals last year were taken on Motons (1st and 4th) or Penskes (2nd, 3rd, 5th and 10th).
Joe Goeke runs custom valved Koni DA shocks (2812's, I believe). Joe was 6th at Nationals last year. Mitch Fagundes (7th at Nationals) ran Bilstein's on his car. I believe 8th place was taken on stock shocks. JRZ single adjustables were on the car that finished 9th.
If you can afford it, it will be built for you. But, unless you go high end, it might not be an improvment over stock.

Moton will be coming out with the Club-Sport soon, which will be stock-class legal. Every bit as capable as the more expensive ones on our car that have won the championship two-years' running - yet almost half the price! There is a thread elsewhere in this forum regarding these.
yO Jason,
Since you didn't come join the fray in STS in your Corrado I've decided to come after the legend in AS.
OK, j/k. The ex-Rhoades mobile should make for a good weekend daily driver. Now where can I get a hardtop?
Watch out for Kathy as she is getting faster and faster every time I watch her.
