Need recs on a racing suit
i am looking for good nomex suit, i am willing to spend a little for my safety, i plan on doing some solo I events. i have heard about racequip and of course sparco suits, any recs or where to buy, my brother lives in columbus, ohio where raceqiuip is hand i think he said i could get a three layer nomex for aroun 450
depends how much you want to spend. some of the cheaper - G-Force suits are available at www.racerwholesale.com and I even sell Sparco suits - but if its your first, I'd suggest you pay a shop premium to get suited correctly.
Any recommendations on the Profox one piece 3-layer racing suit. Rated SFI 3.2A/5 with a TPP of 27.7. Cost $325 off of the Profox website. I don't know what the material is but it does not appear to be Nomex.
The other alternative price-wise seems to be the Sparco Jade. It is a 3 layer suit with a SFI 3.2a/5 rating, but no published TPP as far as I can find. From the forums, it appears to be made from treated cotton. Can be found for about $275.00.
TPP divided by 2 equals elapsed time to 2nd degree burns.
I'm probably going to pull the trigger on the Profox but was hoping for some feedback.

TPP really has no meaning to any sanctioning series for protection rating. FIA or SFI rating are the only testing standard. These standards are what the suits are tested to. Dont bet your safety on a manufacturers TPP data.
A sfi 3.2a/5 suit has 10 seconds of protection. More if you add nomex underwear.
Generally the less expensive suits will tend to be rather heavy, and hot in warm weather. Make sure if you order online, they have a liberal return policy. You may not like it. Further, suits can be difficult to find the proper fit, without trying on first.
Ive never heard of Profox, but If you're looking in the budget suit line, I'd consider G Force, or the Sparco you listed.

I never heard of Profox either. That's why I posted. From their site, it looks like they might sell more to circle track and drag racing drivers. http://www.profoxracing.com/ I'm not sure I like the ankle arrangement on their suit.
Some of the groups I run with require a three layer suit, or a 2 layer suit with the fire retardant underwear. I have a MOMO 2-layer suit that has seen 5 seasons and is starting to show its age. I feel and look like the Michelin man, and it's hot enough - even though I wear it without the underwear. I'm trying to move up to a 3-layer garment at a budget price.

How much time will you be spending racing in the suit? Will it be more than 10x a year you wear it (you generally will wind up in it the whole day)?
That should define how much you will spend. Nicer more expensive suits are generally LEAGUES more comfortable, and that goes a long way toward driver focus. Also what is your climate like? Here in SoCal most of our track weather varies from nice to blistering heat. An overly heavy cheap nomex suit will fatigue you more in the car than one you are comfortable in.
My current suit is a Sparco sprint which I find very comfortable, and have no problems doing 3 hour sessions in my LeMons car. If i had it to do over again though I could spring for an anatomical suit (fits better while seated, shorter in the front than the back).
A race suit is an investment, if you treat it well and care for it it will last years, and conversely you will either be comfortable for years or you will loathe putting it on every time you go to the track. I would find someplace with a showroom you can go try a few on just to get a feeling for what style you like etc, then you can order from anywhere.

I agree with anorexicpoodle. I originally went cheap with the Sparco Jade suit. It's very thick and not very flexible. It's very uncomfortable normally and unbearable during the summer unless you have a cool suit. It's like wearing big, stiff, blanket... I ended up going with the Alpinestars GP suit and it's a night and day difference in comparison for comfort and fit:

The Alpine (and others which are a little more expensive) is designed to fit right when sitting. It's designed not to bunch up in a seated position which aids in it's comfort (and it's also much lighter for the same protection). I did keep the Sparco Jade. I plan to use it during those early spring events when it's still chilly outside.

If you like Alpinestars, these guys have a bunch of stuff on closeout for the last few months. Not sure what they have left. I got a $1600 suit for $600 about 6 months ago. Funky color but amazing quality. And I was coming from a very high level sparco 3 layer prior to this one. No comparison. There are still a lot of options there under $500 if you can find your size. Make sure to call and and ask the guy if they have your euro size in stock because the website is god awful.
