Default New Axles

Is the dealership my only option for new axles? Apparently I need to change mine because they are ready to go :/
Dealership wants to charge 480 a side just the axles. I can do install myself, but 480? no thanks

It got me thinking... where do people buy their replacements? I'm wondering if there is an outside manufacturer that sells good replacement axles. I found some through partsgeek for $83, but not sure of quality...
Anyone know of a better place to get them from, or cheaper brand that's just as good if not better then stock?

you can get chinese (assuming here) replacements for much cheaper from anyone who has a worldpac acct. I used one once on in a pinch my race car and it vibrated above 100mph but I assume that was a fluke.

Tony Fuchs Racing in Winnetka (west San Fernando Valley) replaced my rear axles. Not sure where he sourced them but it was cheaper than what you are talking about from dealer. Call Tony (818) 341-8211. Tell him Richard sent you. Thanks.

I bought mine at one of the local stores (oreilly, autozone, NAPA autoparts, pepboys, etc....just forgot which one exactly) for less than $80. Remanufactured of course.

I had to resort to an FEQ axle from worldpac as well, and had vibration about 45mph. Found an OEM one on craigslist, no more vibration. But it got me thinking, what if I ran aftermarket on both sides...would it still vibrate?

I didn't want to buy another new axle to find out.

But I always keep an eye out on craigslist for a spare set of axles.

I imagine a driveshaft shop could balance em for less than 100 bucks. Still far less than an oem set and still easier than replacing cv's.

FYI, those of you in STR. The DSS and raxles axles are not legal. The shaft diameters are different and they use a beefier spider assembly. Because of this, oem and oem remans are your only options.
