Default new to the track

hello, im starting to autox my S in street tire class in the chicago area. i will need new tires soon. very soon.
im looking for recomendations on what tire size i should get. this will be on stock ap1 wheels.
should i keep it 205/f 245/r or go larger for the fronts? i understand that what size really depends on my driving style but i dont know what my style is yet.
what is a good starting point i should take?

also, currently i have so2's on the front and potenza re750 size 225(if i remember correctly) in the rear. i bought the car like this.
i will be changing all 4 for a matched set. what tire is good for me? initially i wanted to get SO2's all around. then i thought ra-1 would be good. this will be daily driven as well.
let me know if this should be posted in wheel and tire forum instead.

all help and info is apreciated. thanks

RA1 isn't really a street tire, though it can be used as one. They also may not be great autoX tires, as they really prefer to have heat in them.

S02s suck in the rain, if that's an issue, but are otherwise fine tires. They also like some heat, but not as desperately as the RA1s demand it.

My favorites used to be S03 Pole Positions, but they don't make them any more. They might not be the best autoX tires anyway.

I have heard good things about the Goodyear F1 GS-D3, but I'm not sure they are available in the best sizes for AP1.

ps. If you do go with S02s, the correct tires are the ones that are *not* designated for Porsche, and are 205/55,225/50. For most other tires, I would go with 205/55,245/45 if they are available.

I can recommend Bridgestone RE01-Rs in 205 fronts, 225 rears. The balance is good (it's very neutral and doesn't oversteer as you may expect). I autocross on them and have a lot of fun. It is not my daily but the tires are very streetable and are priced reasonably.

The only problem with them is they may wear out quickly. I have ~3,000 miles on mine and they look to have more than half their life to go. Tire Rack has them for a good price. Just be aware that the speed rating is lower than the OEM s02. It shouldn't be a problem, but something you should be aware of.

If they'll be your only tire, I'd stick with the 205/55, 245/45 combo (unless you get the stock S-02's, then 225/50 in the rear). Would be more along the lines of how the car was designed to handle.

As a beginner, autox is much more about practice than having the car set up perfectly. You'll actually learn a bit more about the cars handling with less grippy tires. Then you can slap on a set of r-comps and just go crazy.

I think a good set of tires for both autocross and street purpose are the Hankook RS2's. They come in the correct sizes and are very cheap, especially compared to just about any Bridgestone. When it comes time for me to get new tires, I will probably end up with a set of 225/50 and 245/45 RS2's.

I like a bit more oversteer and the autocrosses around me tend to be a little tight so I went with the 225/50-16 front and 245/45-16 rear of the Hankook RS2 Z212 from www.edgeracing.com At the first autox I was very happy with the grip level but I am not ready to step up to R-compounds just yet. I haven't driven them in the rain yet so I can't comment. Very happy so far.

The RA-1 is a great tire, but it is not legal for street tire class (I believe that a tire must be wear rated at 140 or greater to be legal for street tire). I use RA-1s for my rain tire for autocross, and when I'm too lazy to deal with changing tires at the venue; they are much better than ordinary street tires, but not nearly as good as the Kumho V710.
