New wheels worth it for track?
Hey guys i have a 08 CR. I want t start traking it would it be worth it to get lighter wheels for it just for track time?? I am not sure how much the stock wheels way? And if so can u point me in the right direction for some light/cheap track wheels thanks. I am tryying to lighten my car as much as possible for the track i do have the ac and radio but i need them due to its my DD for now. any other ideas i know taking out the seat and carpet would help very little
Yeah if you are going to autoX just start out as the car is. Taking out seats is going to do really bad things to you classing wise.
Drive it stock (or maybe get an alignment) at your first few events and talk to other S2K owners about getting your tire pressures right. When your tires wear out get some better tires (although the CR tires are pretty good), when your brake pads wear out get better brake pads.
Biggest performance potential increase potential in this equation is going to be you. Befriending some fast S2k drivers and being open to their input is going to be the best thing you can do right away.

Don't change a thing. Learn the car first, then decide what you want to mod based on the rules of whatever race you want to compete in (if any) and what you feel the car needs based on your own experience. The S2000, especially the CR, does not need anything to be raced.

I agree with the above...
But assuming in the future, he does reach that point where the difference in weight on wheels will make a difference... what are some decent wheels to get?
As for good price/performance, aren't the Falken Hanabi wheels a good amount lighter than stock? I'm not sure if they make them wide enough.
EDIT: Looks like their 17's aren't wide enough, and their 18's are 27 pounds!
And on that note, don't forget about tire weight. It's not worth it to get a lighter tire that isn't as sticky, but all things equal, a lighter tire is a big improvement.
Isn't mass a bigger problem the further it is out from the hub, or did my brain just make that up?

Most people who track the car often end up with many sets of wheels (multiple sets of track tires, including those on the car, spares, a set for rain, etc.). Thus, the cheapness of a set of wheels tends to be much more important than the lightness of a set of wheels.
OEM wheels are therefore quite popular, because they are often available cheaply from people who buy aftermarket wheels for their street cars.
