obx roll bar
I believe harddog bought the rights to the design of the Elda bar. But that said the Elda was the first. I actually don't think the Elda came in a lowered harness bar config so that is something harddog did first.
In fact after I posted, I was thinking, just in case I ever need it, I'd much rather have a HardDog or RSG over my head than something nobody has ever heard of.
As far as i'm concerned with all of these bars, it's looking at the metal used, diameter of polls/bars, and quality of the welds.
It's not like it's taking a mold of a replica of a replica... and then creating more replicas.
At the end of the day, these roll bars need to be welded from scratch, with polls bent from scratch...
I find this to be a completely different scenario from that of replica hardtops and FRP parts in general.
That's just personal opinion though...
OBX is just a copy-cat company. They have been doing it for years. There is no R&D. They just purchase an existing product and copy it cheaply. They mainly do/copy bracing products (strut bars, roll bars, cheap bolt-in cages, etc).
I bought the hard dog. The convertible top has already rubbed off paint on the corners. And the welds aren't very nice at all. If I had to do it over, I'd save the bucks and get a sale deal on the RSG, which I think is powder coated. An added bonus - you don't have spend time removing the ugly Harley-Davidson like hard dog flame logo, lol.
