I've got a 2700# (including driver) car with a short wheelbase, a 2L engine putting down 205whp which can't easily be tuned any higher and 163ft/lb of torque.
<snip>
To break into the top 10 I need to spend about $50K more than I have already, I need a full on race car, because that's what it takes to compete in my series.
See... I think that's the biggest part of the problem. People don't really "tune" the S2000 like some of the other cars it competes with, simply because they think it's impossible (or maybe because it's too expensive). You say you're making 205whp and it can't easily be tuned any higher. Yet it can be tuned (with a good I/H/E combo & a VAFC) to nearly 215. I'm sure an e-manage could get closer to 225. If you did the other engine mods (allowed by Honda Challenge, I don't know about other series): overbore, increase compression, balance/blueprint: I'd bet that 240+ is attainable. It's just that no one has done that yet. Do the same mods with a 2.2L and I'd bet you'd be over 250 (dynojet numbers). That's a decent amount of power, and would put the S2000 up there with the best of the rest.

But anyway... we're taking this topic way off course from the intent of the original thread. Oops!

Yeah, that never happens here.

1) You can always tell John to **** off with the 'fear of driving away the factory effort' mentality. Factory teams belong in Speed touring; not regional racing. You get enough ppl telling him that message and start withdrawing and maybe he'll start listening. I know we did that in our series and when you get the title sponsor stepping in, the organizers start making changes in a hurry.

2) Assuming u'r in super touring; time to put in a stroker kit. (you know the section; 4.1.2.1) Either that, or I suppose you can use the lack of power for excuse until u are done with it.

The rules for touring car seems so wide open; you have a lot more freedom than I do, that's for sure.

I'll keep my excuses for a while. Anyone who says they are happy with the rules is cheating

For instance, look at Grand Am GT, they have RX-8 competitively running with GT3. It does not seem that hard to me, am I missing something?
The GT3 cars weigh 2700 lb and the RX8 cars weigh 2200 lb. Besides, at that level of motorsport those cars have almost nothing in common with the street cars of the same name.

2.2L = 100lb weight penalty for Honda Challenge.

I have Toda header, aem intake and a custom exhaust and greddy emanage ultimate (the rules don't allow AEM EMS). with all of that I probably went from stock 200whp to 220whp..... 20hp for about $2500 with the tuning / dyno cost.....

so I have slightly more power than an 2.0 liter but I am hauling around 100lbs more to accelerate, brake and turn...

Much as we all love them, I don't think the S2000 is a great candidate for a race car series. Just look at the discussion about "Spec S2K". It's at some deadly intermediate point between "so popular and cheap that a lot of race cars exist" like the Miata, and "so capable that the pro teams want to run them" like the 911s, Corvettes, Vipers, etc. Too expensive to run on the cheap and too inexpensive to run in the big money catagories.

It would be different if Honda decided to make a factory effort to push S2K racing (like Mazda did for the Rolex RX8s), but they haven't and won't.

In my time trials club, COMSCC, the S2k is actually UNDERclassed. They put it in SSA this year, where it's an overdog. Also, barely anyone else even showed up in SSA this year
Woulda been more fun in SSGT, when the tires have been ok I've beaten the 350Z that owns that class

Oh yeah, I'm bone stock, it's my DD. Will likely go back to the 240Z as my track mount next year.

[QUOTE=9kI4,Sep 18 2007, 11:04 AM] Is it too much to ask that we all delete our non-topic banter?
