Default Open Track Challenge

Hi Everyone -

I just wanted to drop in here really quickly to let you know about our event, The Open Track Challenge. Does 7 of the best tracks on the West Coast in 7 days sound like fun? How about full day time trials at each site using the Formula One qualifying format? There are classes for trailered cars and cars that drive the entire competitive route. And, at the end of the week, a big party and awards banquet at one of the casino-hotels on Vegas's Strip. If you're interested, please visit www.opentrackchallenge.com for more information or www.nsxfiles.com where Doug Hayashi (an OTC Organizer) has laid down the gauntlet to other automotive groups.

Hope to see y'all out there!

I am still wondering how the Zen Five will do on this outing they are putting together...

If I remember correctly these are two man teams and you can only use one car right? Kind of a mini-"One Lap of America".

We've got a few One Lappers making the transition to our event and a couple more are going to try and do both events, back to back (evidently they are into sleep deprivation). You can field up to 4 drivers in a car and we feel our format caters much more to track folks. While it is impressive to knock out 900 interstate miles a day, we'd rather be on track. I also think you'll find a deeper field of talent with OTC. The staggering differences between the two events will be evident soon as we close out the major media and product sponsors.

I don't mean for this to sound negative towards OLOA. It's just that the similarities between the two are very low once you get past the endurance schedule.

Which reminds me Ted, I was going to ask you last month if you wanted to do this... Your car or mine.

I guess we'll have to let the dyno results decide, right?

And who's organizing the S2000 team? We need five S2000s, I believe...

I believe we've got two S2K's ready to go already. One guy from Colorado and another from New York. A few others are trying to get preliminary clearance from their employers. If all goes perfectly, there could be 8-10 S2000 teams which I'd probably let organize themselves into two seperate Team Challenge entries of 4 S2K's each. If a couple magazine editors would hurry up, there might be some more S2K's in the mix.

Anyways, if you're trying to round up talent for your cause, you might try centralizing the efforts on the OTC UBB. The S2K should be the car to beat in its class.

Sounds interesting. What is the ruling on the S2K as far as soft top roll hoop requirements? Aftermarket roll bar required or not?

Good question and it's an issue I've looked at recently with some other clubs outlawing S2K's without roll protection altogether. The S2K soft tops would be fine without any aftermarket roll protection in Touring Division, though I'd really encourage S2K owners in Unlimited Division to seek some add'l protection.

Makes me wish that I lived on the West Coast! Have you ever been over here to Sebring?

BTW, The stories in the nsxfiles are very entertaining. There are even some references to the S 2000.
