Default os giken clunk?

Just installed an os diff into ap2 for bsp. Everything went well on install and reused original ring/pinion. Did not touch pinion just transfered ring gear to new diff. Am getting a clunk thump that feels like axle bind on slow tighter turns, no problems in straight line or wide sweepers. Anyone experience this or have any suggestions. Diff went in last night and havent had a chance to recheck everything but just looking for any feedback. Also for those of you that installed yourselves was the single quart of os fluid enough. Mine barely dribbled out of the filler and seems like may want to add slightly more

Those are the clutch plates in the diff at slow speed / tight turns. There is a Ford "sliplock" additive that you can use to quiet that if you care.

Thanks for the reply. One question when this happens you can actually feel the clunk almost like the axle is stuck and then releases is this the same as what your referring to.

I've had the diff in my MX-5 for about 18 months now, and it has done that (clunk you can feel) ever since install.

I've never used the OS Giken recommended 80w250, because I couldn't get hands on it at install, and I called the guys at their US HQ--they said not to worry, any good diff/gear oil would work, the 80w250 would just quiet the clunking.

Used 75w140 for the whole time, which includes about 4 pro solos, 8 tours, and 40 or so locals, most of them with two drivers, plus 16K or so street miles. It still works great.

My OSG also does this at low speeds/parking lot maneuvering.

As far as the fluid goes, did you just have the rear jacked up or was the whole car jacked up evenly?

My OSG clunks, as well. I'm using the 80w250 OSG fluid; diff was filled with chassis leveled on 4 jack stands.

Thats normal they all do it. Better fluid and as it breaks in it'll do it less. If you play with the settings on the diff not only can you make the diff better you can virtually eliminate that. Mine doesn't clunk anymore.
