I wanted to get some feedback (especially from Gregg) about my letter before I send it... Then I figured we should just start one thread for everyone to post their letters before they send them so we can all review each other's.

Here's mine:

Jason, your letter was obviously carefully thought out and well written. I hope you are successful in halting the reclassification of the S2000.

Good luck to you, Brad, and Juliann with the rest of the season!

My letter was shorter:

Porsche Boxster S clearly does not belong in the same class as the Honda S2000. The Boxster S has a distinct advantage in torque and tire size over the S2000.

SCCA member # R285xxx, and yes, I own an S2000

Hmmm... sometimes shorter is better - Nice, Randy. And thanks Sondra! Juliann, are we gonna let Fred drive again after what happened last time?

I have been off at Evolution schools plus event and am still catching up. I have several subjects related to classing and the school to post but a quick (and perhaps tactless )answer to this one.

Your letter looks fine, except for one sentence: "I can only hope that in the end the decision that

I think that the letter does an excellent job of stating your position on the Boxster S vs. the S2000. However, I would move the information describing the context of the performance numbers before the "much like the miata" paragraph. Given the relative closeness of those numbers, I think the more clarification that we have before the numbers really sink in the better. Also, you might want to mention that the new Ms, including the coupe and roadster, are being upped to 315hp this year, which might make them want to split it between old and new.

From the number that you have included on the C4, it seems like it IS competitive with the s2k. Would it be possible to find more data on that that proves your case?

Jason,

Your letter gets your point across well, but I would humbly suggest some "improvements". First, don't bring up the subject of car pricing. If you are playing in the current SS/AS classes (or future SS/AS/BS), you are by default already saying you have the resources necessary to compete.

If you still feel obliged to quote prices, take into account variations around the country. For example, I'd be hard pressed to find a S2K for 32K locally, while I could load up a Boxster for less than 50K. While you are still talking a 10K differential in price, when has that ever been a point in classing? Someone running a 968, which you can pick up for about 20K in good shape, could make the same argument about the S2K being "too expensive".

Second, if you are going to list event results, list all National level events that have top caliber drivers. You list Nationals and one Tour. Not presenting a thorough picture gives the impression of cherry-picking the data.

Anyway, good luck on your classing wishes. There will be unhappy people no matter which way it goes. One thing that cracks me up is how much attention the BoxsterS is getting. How many people are actually running them? And how many of them actually own the cars?

I've been doing some thinking about the reclassification and I'm going to share a thought...

It seems like an awful lot of people have jumped on the bandwagon and bought an S2000. If there are 25-30 stooks at Nationals, will that help us or hurt us in re-classifying the car? Will the SCAC potentially screw that many people or will numbers sway their opinion - ie does the loudest voice get heard?

They basically did this last year with the move of the 1.6L Miata to CS, and several years ago with the SOHC/DOHC Neons getting different classes. They also listened to the masses in moving the M3 out of ESP and into BSP this year.

Considering that Honda has put up good money for the Pros and Nationals, will the SCAC/SEB feel that it's a bad idea to "piss off" one of its remaining sponsors by moving the S2K to a potentially unfair class?

Or will they base their decision solely on the performance of the car at nationals?

Should we be recruiting as many people as possible to attend Nationals?
