Default Race car paint......

I recently saw in Sport Compact Car that they took an STI and stripped it's paint, then covered in black primer....... would that be cool for a race car?

[dumb question] would the lack of smoothness in the paint effect the aerodynamics materially? [/dumb question]

I only have 2 more racing weekends until the car goes into hibernation for about 4-5 months, so I thought I may make a winter project out of a new paint scheme.

I would have to pay somewhere to do anything beyond my black primer idea.

now that i think about it, black would probably make the car hotter than it currently is.? I do have a black hardtop & hood ....so maybe the car is already getting hot from the sun anyway.

I would do it. I don't think I could do it to my S2000 but my Civic is dangerously close to the stealth treatment. Flat black is very popular in the Hot Rodding crowd. I think it looks mean.

the joking comment is about how primer might actually cause more drag. (atleast a measurable difference).

how many other race cars have you seen in flat black? I don't have to be the dolt that follows what everyone else does....... of course now that they did it in sport compact car it will probably be everywhere...ahhaha.. like anyone reads that crap.

1982... isn't that the year that Fast Times At Ridgemont High came out?

I don't see the paint type affecting skin drag materially.

If you get thorough and strip ALL the old paint off, and then apply only a very thin coat of primer, you might even save a few lbs.
