Default Race/Street Car Build-Up

Hello everyone, at the moment I believe I have figured out everything I wan't to do to the S2000. Or atleast a gist of it....

Right now I know that I want to upgrade my tires, coilovers, roll-bar, racing seat, brakes, harnesses, and a few misc. things.

This is going to be my daily driver for a while so I want it to remain reliable and yet fast at the track as well. At the moment I have 17X9 RPF1s, Buddyclub N+ coilovers, Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs, and a fake Bride Vios III Low Max.

So my question to y'all is what should I plan on upgrading to for a fast car around the track? I have in mind some 255/40/17 Bridgestone RE11s, Racetech Seat, HKS Hypermax III, Hard Dog Roll-bar with double diagonals and lower harness bar, and maybe the Voltex wing and diffuser. Are there any good alternatives that could be for for less or equal cost of all these. I know that I could get some JRZs or Motons but I am not about to spend 4k on some coilovers. I have read some reviews on the Hankook RS3s but nothing about the tread life, I know from a few friends that have the RE11s and they love the tread life and great grip of them. Also does anyone have any pictures of the AeroMotions wing?

Thanks in advance and I hope to be in this this sectoin a lot more in the near future.

Tires: Dunlop Z1 SS are very good tires. Keep them until they wear out, and move to RE11 or AD08 if you want to try something new. The RS3's have awesome grip, but fall off quickly (significantly less grip after one track day). I think the Z1 SS are the best bang for the buck.

Coilovers: HKS Hypermax III are good entry-level coilovers, but I'd also consider KW V3/Clubsports and TEIN SRC's. I have no opinion about the BC coilovers, but I'd at least get them cornerweighted and try them out at the track before you decide to throw them away.

Wing: the Voltex wings are great wings. The APR GTC-300 wing is also good, but I'd go with the Voltex, simply because I hear the GTC-300 have too much downforce and too much drag. I'd also think about a splitter, if you're going with a Voltex wing. Without a splitter, the APR GTC-200 should be fine.

Coilovers: these are fine-tuning devices. Meaning, once you've got everything else set (spring rates, damping, tires, aerodynamics), you can use coilovers to dial out any excessive understeer or oversteer. Upgrade coilovers last.

How many track days have you done? I'd first get used to pushing the car to the limit, before you upgrade your car too much. The reason being, the more upgrades you do to the car, the higher the limit, and the more difficult it becomes to drive at that limit. There is no sense in spending thousands of dollars on your car, and getting spanked by someone in a bone-stock S2000 with a $500 wing.

Bottom line: the S2000 is a very track capable car out of the box. Focus on driver improvement, then decide on what aspects of the car you'd like to improve.

Thanks for the input guys. At the moment I have a few autocross events in my Mazdaspeed 6, but none in the S2000. I have done a few mountain runs in the S2000, but never really pushed it hard cause it's not really street legal. I did have a track day planned at Little Tallageda Gran Prix but had to cancel because of a friends situation. I intend on doing a mix of autocross and maybe little tracks this up coming year.

^ In that case, I'd keep the car as is. Just corner weight the car. Maybe put in an APR GTC-200 wing if you want some high-speed stability. Learn to drive the car first, then spend the big bucks on car improvement.

As far as the RS3's, that's just what I hear from several people who have tried the RS3. I only drove on the RS3's for one session when they were brand new.

Those are some good right ups from the other members. I run T-3 in my S2000 and still drive it on the streets a lot. What your looking to do will not effect reliability as much as creature comforts.
I have a Racetech seat and unless your really tiny make sure to get the bigger version of the seat for more everyday comfort. I have spent 14hrs in my Racetech seat going from NJ to Florida a few months back. My back is just fine and the only other seat i have liked as much was my Sparco EVO2. I also have custom brackets to mount my seat from RaceLabz so i sit low and slightly reclined.
For your suspension i have been in Ap1's with KW3 and AST (number unknown) and absolutely loved how planted they were without wings.
When it comes to getting a wing i would recommend you skip the adjustable wings and just go CR front lip and wing, if you have an AP2 that is. Otherwise i would say robrob has the best wing set up for you.
Good luck on the build.

Leave it as is and go drive it, just because your going to do all that work doesn't really mean your going to have a fast track car. Nothing is better than SEAT TIME and Lot's of it.

The car is great out of the box, just go get the hang of it first before you start getting to far in over your head. Just my o2.

I drove my car on the track for about a year on the stock suspension before I decieded it was time to get coilover's.
