Default Racers are the best

I don't have to go out of town for work very often, but I'm usually bored when I do.

This past weekend, I went to Houston Friday-Sunday. I brought my karting helmet and went to the local kart track. Between Friday evening and Saturday evening I did >240 laps. It was a lot of fun. Met some really nice guys and had some good battles with the local regulars. Started about 1.5 off the fast guys and ended the weekend about 0.4 off.

It was fun going to a new track and trying to "figure it out." Much more fun (and cheaper) than sitting in the hotel room and ordering room service.

I'm going to try and make it a habit to hit up the local kart tracks whenever I'm out of town, but it cements my belief that racers are some of the coolest people ever.

I have another work trip (Phoenix) next month. Looking forward to it!

cool, thanks for sharing. I travel for work pretty often, I should do this! Man, that helmet is going to take up a big chunk of my carry-on space though

I always carry my helmet on and usually they don't consider it as anything extra I always bring a back country ski backpack for a carry on (real professional I know but you can't beat it for size or running through an airport to catch a connecting flight) and I've never had a problem getting on with this and my helmet. There's nothing better than trying out new kart tracks, my favorite so far is in Denver.

I was bummed that I didn't get out of business stuff until early evenings both days. I wanted to hit the big, outdoor shifter kart track, but it was late and cold.
