I'd give the Sparco Corsa a try. I am 6'0 and 165 pounds, with most of my height in my torso, and they are a perfect fit and has very good lower back support.

Also, I was told that the Sparco Corsa is the tallest Sparco seat. Recaro also makes a tall seat, but that one has helmet supports (i.e. those huge antlers that pro racers use). Bride also makes a tall seat called the Zeta II Type-L, but I haven't sat in that one.

the only competition seat that somewhat fits in the s2000 is the rev, the corsa's side shoulder bolsters are too wide.

I'm adding a couple more bits of information to keep this thread alive and improve its information content.

A thread on Rennlist concerning the use of track harnesses on the street. Of particular interest are comments on the dangers of contact with a rollbar/cage without a helmet on your head and some alternative persepectives on the value of 4, 5 and 6 point harnesses, even without proper rollover protection. Be sure to scroll down to the post by Radical Racer:

Some interesting points on the 5 vs. 6 point harnessdebate:

I have referenced this thread in the FAQ thread.

There is too much great info to not have it readily available for all that come to Racing and Competition.

Thank you CoralDoc for all the work that went into this thread.

The Ultrashieldrace.com aluminum seat is a great fit as it is built for the spec miata's. No room for wide shoulder wings in the miata or the s2000 so the seat wraps around the chest. Great on the track...a little uncomfortable on the street.
My seat is custom made so the seat belt holes are high enough for my tall torso. Also bolted the seat to the floor to keep me almost two inches under the bar.
You are all correct regarding the critical nature of race belt angle to the shoulders...too high and you can rise up...to low and your spine gets compressed.

Todcp, can you post some info on your experience with mounting this seat and on sourcing (do they use dealers or only sell direct? If dealers, are the prices negotiable?).

With thanks,

I purchased the Ultrashield seat direct. Spoke with the owner in fact. Very nice people.
Also bought their six point harness.

The web site is ultrashieldrace.com. This particular seat is shown on the site and in their advertisements in "Grass Roots Motorsports" magazine. The seat was designed for the Spec Miata class and has a wrap around design instead of shoulder wings due to the narrow Miata cockpit....like our S2000's. The seat is excellent at holding me on the track. The cost is very reasonable. I paid $300.00 for mine and it was extra for my custom sizing.

Important for me and many others is that the wider sizes needed for many of us is possible. I am 6'5" tall and have wide hips. Most race seats that 'will' accomodate my hips are to wide at the bolsters to fit the S2000. My seat is the eighteen inch wide model and fits fine.

The seat as delivered has race track padding...in other words almost none. I had a local auto upholstery shop put some extra padding on the bottom and a little extra lumbar support. Cost was under $25.00.

It might also be a good idea to cut the door side chest wing down a little more to make it easier to get in and out with the top up. Fine for me as is but might be prefered for others.

Let me know if anyone has any other questions.

This is helpful. I'll have to call these folks to find a local dealer (assuming there is one) so that I can sit in one of their seats to assess the fit. I'm 5' 9", so I may move around more than you in the stock setup.

Three questions, however:

1. How/where did you mount the lap harness and the submarine harness for use with your seat? The shoulder harness, I'd imagine, mounts directly to the harness bar in the rollbar, right?

2. What mounting hardware is needed to actually mount the seat in the car?

3. Is is possible to keep the stock seat/shoulder belt and the stock seat and simply swap your stock seat out for the aftermarket seat (and use the aftermarket harness) for track days? That's what I'd like to do, for convenience reasons mainly.

Sorry....you asked about mounting. I mounted directly to the floor for maximum head room. Also mounted to the roll bar harness bar with an upper mount purchased from JEGS.com and designed for Kirkey seat mounting. Aluminum race seats should be mounted bottom and upper back.
Could use a side mount or bottom mount as well. This is the way to go unless you are very tall.
For my wife and others to drive I had deeper cushions made for the back and bottom since the seat is in a fixed position.

Harness bar was to tall with my seat so I cut out some of the plastic and mounted to the cross structure behind the seat that supports the stock seat belt.
Bottom seat belt were attached to the stock rear seat mount holes. The crotch belt was bolted through the floor and fixed with grade eight bolts and large washers to help spread the load on the thin sheet metal our cars have.

Ultrashield for insurance and liability reasons does not offer seat mounts nor advice other than to mount at the bottom and top. Lots of available bottom mounts and side mounts out there. Local shops should be able to do something custom for you. There was a guy from Houstoock club with a Kirkey seat that had his shop do something custom and removeable..;; might want to search "kirkey" a see if he still is around.

It is possible to swap out the seat but would be a bit of a pain (two bolts on the bottom and two bolts on the back, in my case). I don't care if it is not as comfortable as stock because I only drive the car a couple of thousand miles a year.

Regarding fit....Ultrashield has the measurements you need to make of your body. Email to them and they will tell you what size to buy.

Don't forget this is a race seat....
