Default Racing online during silly season?

Slightly off-topic, although it does involve both racing and competition...

Since many of us have shelved the race rubber for the next few months, I was wondering if anyone was interested in doing some racing online to help while away the hours.

I've been playing Project Gotham Racing 2. Gotham has time trials for each car in the game, and it records your times for posterity; it's interesting to note that currently three of the world's top four S2000 drivers own S2000s in real life and are on this board:

1st: Rudeboy (rudeboy on s2ki.com), 1:04.051
2nd: Disintegration (me!), 1:04.133
3rd: Albus (not an S2000 owner), 1:04.168
4th: spas2k (waltk88 on s2ki.com): 1:04.815

I'm sure some of you guys are gamers as well, so I'd like to cordially invite you to bring it on.

Steve

Hmm, I'm sure you noticed how evenly matched the S2000 and Boxster S are in PGR2 too. Some S2000 fans must've had a hand in that. Oh, and how over-rated the BMW Z is ...

Hi Steve, I got addicted to LiveForSpeed (PC race sim) briefly (although long enough to upgrade my computer). I'll race you in that or in Porsche Unleashed...

Another game of note which I frequent is F1 Challenge 99-02. There are lots of mods for it which include M3 Challenge, FIA GT, and ETCC. There is a way to play it online using a program called F1RST, its alot of fun and a very serious simulation. (NFS arcade type players might not like)

Fyrestrike, do you have The Ring for F1 99-02? I really like the new ETCC mod myself.

I haven't touched my GT3 since early 2002. Got a PS2 for GT3, played it for 6 weeks, then went back to GPL and PC sims. Gotta put my old logitech wheel back on the PS2 and see how the virtual S2000 compares to the real deal - my favorite track was Complex String on sim tires.

I'd be up for any PC sim racing. GPL, LFS, F1 Challenge, whatever. Don't have PGR, in fact the only console game I have is GT3.

While we're bench racing... anyone here have a GPLRank? Mine's been stuck at -62.9 for a while.

As in real life, I'm quite slow . My GPL rank has been at something like +40 since I stopped actively pursuing a rank when GTR 2002 came out. Negative at Monza, Monaco and Silverstone and close at most other places, but my ring time sucks - like 8:48 or something in a lotus. I could probably go negative (mebbie during my christmas gaming binge I'll give it a go) but never get close to alien status like you. -62 is awesome.

I used to play GPL very frequently. Three or more nights a week going at it for a couple hours each night, mostly online with 4-8 other guys. The online aspect really helped me improve because it taught me consistency and also pushed me to go faster by watching other lines and picking up tips.

It took me ages to get under 8 minutes at the Ring. That is a real challenge. In the end it just came down to running it day in and day out for a couple weeks until I was so familiar with it I could run it with my eyes closed.

Having a force feedback steering wheel really helped as well. It's easier to tell what the car is up to. FF is very well implemented in GPL.
