Rod bearings California
Any shop in California that can do rod bearings ? My car runs fine but being high mileage thinking might be good idea to change. Cheaper to change rod bearings than new motor . Any thoughts on this ? Thanks
@S2000_916 - figure i would follow up on this. I was recently at Formula-S dropping off my differential for rebuild and asked them about motors, etc. etc.
They said that they do rodbearings. They'll do a whole out of chassis motor refresh for $10K, includes parts and labor.
Short list of things they do:
- Re-build/refresh head
- Replace Timing Chain and guilds
- Replace water and oil pump
- Replace coolant lines
- Replace piston rings
- Check cylinder walls for scoring
- Replace rod bearings
- Replace any plastic connectors that are brittle and cracked
Not sure what else, but that was the verbal list of things i got from them.
As far as replacement/rebuilt motors, they're working with someone who says that they can replicate the FRM cylinder walls for rebuilding. They're having a motor sent out and will be doing a full track build and campaigning the motor to see if it will last and be durable for the rigors of track use. They aren't offering it to customers until they feel it meets their expectations.
