Default Roll Bar Thread #93342190

Couple Questions,

I autocrossed twice last month. Addicted now, and want to do tons of events for next year as well as some track days at Summit, VIR, and NJ since I'm pretty much equal distance from all 3 (VIR is a little farther I suppose).

I just bought a hardtop for my S. I realize I still need a rollbar yet to track it at each of these three courses. I've read that the cusco will not pass SCCA or HPDE events, so that essentially leaves with the hard dog or RSG correct? I want to install it and not ever worry about passing any regulations or rules.

I would really like to leave the soft top in as well as all interior plastic pieces as it still is a street car 90% of the time. Am I asking too much? I believe the roll bar with one diagonal will be the one I want, but wanted to double check with you guys.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

You'll have to ditch most of the plastics unfortunately.

only way to keep the plastics is to cut them to fit around the roll bar. i reinstalled my interior fully with a harddog bar/ single diagonal and lower harness bar.

Install the roll bar and track it more often. You'll soon care less about the plastics and trim.

Have any pictures of it with the interior in and cut?

Postman did a real nice job reinstalling all the plastics (seen his car in person a few times). I have a double diagonal bar with the stock bulkhead and honestly reinstalling the plastics isn't that hard. Where it gets very tricky/hard is if you remove the stock bulkhead and go with a bulkead replacement bar, as now the attachment points for a lot of the plastics no longer exists. I've been meaning to go back and add door edging around the cut edges of the plastics and reinstall the rear plastics pieces for the roll hoops but haven't found the time.

Cutting the plastics to fit with the stock bulkhead really isn't that bad though. I'd say it'll add a few hrs to the rollbar install, but it's just a matter of time, not something difficult imo. If you want to keep the functionality of the secret compartment, get a double diagonal, if not get a single.

BTW u get to keep the secret compartment with dbl diagonal though required some mod to accommodate the harness bar. I only needed a roll bar for Daytona with pboc. nasa or chin never made me install a roll bar at PBIR, homestead, Sebring, or road atlanta. Even if the club accepts the S2000 as not needing a bar the track still can so verify both the club and track won't require a bar. Or just install a bar. Review the instalation instructions on hard dog Web site and make sure your comfortable cutting the wheel wells. I was very impressed with the fit and finish of my hard dog as well as the strength.

If that's the case, Maybe I'll just go with the most basaic hard dog roll bar. Will require the least amount of cutting and modifying the plastic, as well as make it legal to take on any track, and I'll still be able to use every compartment.

Anyone else agree that this may just be my best bet then? It won't look as cool as the diagonal or double diagonal, but right now that's the least of my worries.

You really want the diagonal, thats what gives it most of the strength. Triangles are strong, half circles, not so much.
