can a home made roll cage approved by SCCA and FIA(?)???
if what do i have to get it approved?

Are you planning to run in Formula 1?

SCCA does not "approve" roll cages. What happens is that local SCCA inspectors certify that the cage meets the SCCA specs.

I would say 50% of cages in scca club racing are home made...

SCCA should have a rule book to outline the requirements/specs. That is what I think you would go by.

click on the "2008 scca club racing general competition rules and regulations" .pdf. Cage rules begin on page p.93. There are different cage rules for different classes.

Perhaps he wants to run WRC , since F1 isn't the only series FIA governs.

i want to start getting into racing... and i know some tracks require roll cages for convertible cars. next year ill be taking chassis class in my school. they allow you to make your own roll cage, so when i have the chance i want to make one.

Some tracks only require ROLL BARS.

But if you're going racing W2W then that's another story.

Check the FAQ's under "roll bars" for some ideas on what has been done and works There are some links to "roll cages" as well.
