S2000 Challenge National Runoffs
We need to establish a location for S2000 Challenge National runnoffs next year. (Every year could be a different venue).
How about Texas World Speedway on September 27,28? Texas is somewhat of a middle ground, though favoring California obviously. Very manageable for the gobs of Californians. Not terrible for the midwesterners. And since it's far south, not bad for the floridians and southeasterners. I guess it's only bad for the northeasterners. And the northwesterners will show up anywhere. And just think how easy it is for the Texans!! Actually in that state it's possible it's closer for someone who lives in Chicago.
If we're going to do TWS, I'd like to get the Friday before that weekend so those of us who don't know the track at all can have a practice day.

I think it is a good idea, but I would proceed cautiously. Going to Texas is a full on one week vacation committment for most people, and I am not sure how many people would actually give up an entire week. Not sure many spouses/spouse equivalents want to spend a week in Texas. (not that Texas is bad or anything, but uh...what's there for the non-car geek except for large hunks of cow?)
The only club that I know of that has a "National Competition Meet" and does it successfully are the Viper geeks. We could be the second club that pulls it off, but just be aware when you start getting estimates on who wants to go, a lot of people could flake out at the last minute. You might have to make it a "National Honda Competition Meet" to fill the event.
Just make sure you estimate your attendance by the amount of DEPOSITS that are sent in advance, and not by how many people that say, "I'll go".

Doug,
It could be a runoffs for other makes as well. Corvettes or, yes, all Honda's. We already have the dates reserved and have that weekend planned for a regular SV event. Given that it's a go anyway and expected to sell out
, making it the national runoffs is just a matter of choosing the location. If not m any people want to drive to the runoffs, I guess that's tough luck for those of us who do.
As for you, you're going to the runoffs, even if they're in Greenland. Right?

I don't know about the end of September but I've been in Texas at the beginning of September and it's brutal. The humidity is like 500% and it ungodly hot. Isn't there a race track in Colorado or something where we could hold these?
Texas sounds good, and we definitely need the day of familiarization, unless we call Saturday the practice and Sunday the "race".
If the last few years are any precedent, this years' Solo2 National Championships will be the 6-12 of September. While a date that keeps me from driving halfway across the country and back twice in one month would be ideal, I understand that this may not be a scheduling possibility.
I look forward to the opportunity to test my mettle against folks from all over the country, and to meet a lot of the folks from this board that might not make it to Laguna or Topeka...

but Texas is a long way.
I doubt I'd make it, but if I get those Lotto numbers right you never know...
I'm hoping to make it to Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Thunderhill (especially if I can do two or more of those on one trip), and considering Road America, and of course I'll be at the Northwest Tracks.

You might consider Mid America Motorplex in Iowa, kind of what its being built for.

Well, you can call me biased if you want, TWS being my home track in a sense, but I have several reasons to think it'd be a great place for a national event.
The NSXCA will be using TWS this weekend for their national NSXPO event. You can ask them about their thoughts on it.
- It's a very fun track. 2.9 miles, plenty wide, 100mph+ corners, a 30mph corner and plenty in between, esses, some elevation changes...

The track is just a few miles south of College Station and Texas A&M, which might or might not be anybody's cup of tea, but Austin and the Hill Country are only 100 miles away. Austin is a great place to party, eat, check out live music and the like, 20+ local S2000 owners show up for events at the drop of a hat, and Hill Country offers some awesome drives and scenery. - It's centrally located, although closer to the east coast than west. There's plenty of awesome stopping places for the trip from either location.
- Weather this year and last in late September was perfect - warm (low 90s, high 80s), low humidity - just perfect for top down cruising. Right now it's rather cold, actually.
- If you want to turn this into a multi-day type event and bring significant others, they would have more than enough to do if based in the DFW area while us children are playing at the track. (300 miles from the track.)
