Default S2000 + CRX

I used to have a CRX when I was broke and dreamed of dropping in a B16/18/whatever (you know, light power to weight). After it died, and I replaced it with my DD AP1, I thought "why spend a bunch of money for another street car? Why not build it with a purpose?" So I thought of dropping an F20C into the CRX, making RWD, and put it on the track. My original intent was to do most of the work myself, but a family developed, I moved twice, and here I am, still not started. The cost of the future work has a lot to do with it.

Materials on hand. 1x AP1 chassis (thanks Ek9), works great except body panels are trash. 1x CRX shell. 1x VTSC. All race safety equipment and personal gear.

Plan 1. Build custom mounts, etc then add F20C, transmission, suspension, etc to CRX. Would end up being lighter, but less rigid than . . .

Plan 2. Have a shop hang the CRX outer panels on the S2000 chassis, add cage, etc. May not end up being lighter than a stripped S2K, though. (I've done the overlays, firewall stays in place, windshield is a bit more forward than the S, have to mod steering column/pedals a bit, nothing crazy).

Endstate. Car looks like a CRX, guts of S2000, and can race on a track. Am not penniless.

Issues. 1. Cost. 2. Likelyhood of good outcome construction-wise. 3. for Plan B: Only racing venue would be in NASA pro racing super unlimited class.... because the vehicle is such a frankenstein.

Final thoughts: This comes after having the materials above since early 2007 and still getting nowhere...it's 3 years later! So I'm posting this for advice. I was going to pay a shop to do Plan B but they retracted their offer. So now I am just saving my beans and trying to figure out what is the best way to proceed. I could do some of the minor welding/bodywork on my own, but definitely will leave the cage to pros.

For the group:
If you had the materials available, would you go plan A or B? Why, with respect to safety/cost/handling/venues available/weight? Some of you out there have used the F20C + trans in your car...comments/time&price estimates? Anyone use a S2000 chassis for other purposes?

p.s. (I'm not posting this to get "it's a waste of time", "why don't you do that with a MX5/celica/other vehicle/"...I can think up of those on my own. If you bother to respond, please be on topic. Same with, "if you wan't to get into racing, buy a ___"...I'm specifically asking about the technical build details.)

Well, yes, but that would still be FWD and thus, not the point of the project.
Finished stripping the CRX and got my plasma cutter operational...a world better than using a sawzall or shears. But I probably won't do any major work until I finish school in December 2010.
