Default S2000 drivetrain cooling

Hi guys,

Has anyone here ran cooling systems for the s2000 drivetrain i.e trans and rear diff?

Has anyone had experience with spoon's high capacity differential case?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Im not sure if there's really any additional need for cooling the trans and diff fluids on a DD car but it comes factory with cooling fins. In addition Spoon sells extended pieces of fins for the rear diff. Those have to be professionally welded to the existing fins on the diff.

Not really sure about the trans.

Thanks. This isnt a DD car. The car is being used for endurance and we recently had the final drive fail and suspect extended heat could be the issue.

I don't know what is or isn't out there. But the mech engineering side of me says you have two options; both are pretty custom.

1.) You tap an oil hole into a non-load bearing part of the diff case and setup a pump-oil-cooler circulatory system. This of course takes meticulous planning.

2.) Just like high end gaming computer towers or R/C cars, weld aluminum fins to the diff. Essentially add heat-sinks to your diff. A lot of the new BMW's actually have this if you look underneath.

Obviously they both take custom fab work, so I hope you're a creative mechanic

Good luck, and keep us posted with what you end up doing.

The S2000 unlimited class time attack build in Modified magazine is using a pump/cooler system for the rear diff.

thanks for the tips guys. Hoping to avoid custom work! quality control is always suspect. Lol.

Any links to that build in modified magazine?

Thanks!

There's only mention of the cooler, no details, supposedly coming later.

I'm planning on welding in a couple AN fittings to the cover and putting a pump and a cooler on mine. You can smell the gear oil in mine after any more then 20 mins on track. It's better with the OS in the car. The Kaaz that was in the car stunk in qualifying and then eventually sized. I'm thinking I can do the Cooler for about 1/4 the price that spoon wants for their cover.
