Hi, is anyone planning to go to VIR this season? I will hopefully getting a new S2k this year and cant wait to take it to the track! Does anyone frequent VIR?
I am with Porshe Club and i have never seen an S2k Thats sad. I am still in the market, looking at S2k and Z4. The lease is so cheap on BMWs right now, its hard to pass up. The S2000 is the most expensive. However i havent test driven a Boxster S yet
Also, the new 997 is AMAZING on the track. Tho it doesnt look so impressive on paper, and is hideously ugly in my opinon, i totally respect it after i saw it at Fall Fling at VIR! Wow!!! I guess Porshe has done it again
VIR is one hell of a facility. VIR was one of the first permanent road course's along with Watkins Glenn and Road America as public road racing was banned in 1952. The first SCCA and IMSA races were held at VIR. Hurly Haywood, Carroll Shelby, Bob Holbert, Richard Petty, Carl Hass and David Pearson are just a few of the legendary drivers who have raced at VIR.
The fourth ever SCCA Trans-Am race in 1966, won by Tom Yeager and Bob Johnson in a Ford Mustang over a field that included NASCAR stars Richard Petty, David Pearson, Curtis Turner and Wendell Scott was held at VIR. The first ever IMSA GT race in 1971, won by Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood in a Porsche 914-6 GT was also held at VIR. IMSA made a return engagement in 1972, also won by Gregg and Haywood in a Porsche 911S.
At 3.27 miles, VIR is blistering fast with long straights, challenging corners and dramatic elevation changes. VIR has four different configurations in which two can be run simultaneously.
None of the men who first brought VIR to life, nor the racers and fans who frequented it in the early days, could have imagined the kind of showplace that exists on the site today. In the words of actor Paul Newman, who has raced in both amateur and professional competition since the 1970s,
I have yet to drive VIR myself, but I know lots of people who have between the BMW CCA Club Racers and my One Lap friends, and they all have said they love it.
Someday soon I will be able to get out to more places myself. I'm only about 1 month away from getting a new vehicle.
