Same size front/rear the way to go?
Thanks to a few threads I've seen recently in the Gallery and the JDM section (the ones identifying that Amuse and J's run s2k's with the same size fronts and rears) I'm wondering what the positive's and negatives of running the same wheel/tire all the way around are on the track, as opposed to running with a stock setup.
Let's assume that if we're running the same size's all the way around, those wheels are greater than or equal to the width of the stock rears.
Thanks!
jeff

Not unless you're going to also go through the whole suspension to make that a good idea. Like so many other things, changing one thing without considering (intelligently) the ramifications is a bad idea. Designed as a whole, you may end up with same-size tires - or not.
It just depends on far too many things to ass-u-me...

maybe i should rephrase...
Considering the characteristics of an s2000, what conditions would make it advantagous running the same wheel/tire all the way around?
If you are going to say it depends, please at least contribute some scenario people....
*I think that J's and Amuse qualify for a little more than JDM tuner of the week* I wasn't trying to make this a JDM fanboy thread, but just for kicks....
OMG jdm r0x0rs my s0x0rs j00 guys r just h8rs!

One of the extra special bonuses of the S is that, if you use all 4 of the same size wheel/tire on a stock suspension S, you can drive backwards off the road at a high rate of speed.
While you are doing this, you can contemplate your place in the history of cars that can achieve this daring and thrilling move such as Porsche's from the 1970's, BMW's from the same time period, and a host of others.

I run the same size tire front and rear right now only because Kumho doesn't make a 245/45-16. I'm using 225/50-16s on all four corners and it seems to work well. I auto-x and I'm on stock suspension except for the front sway bar. I have a much stiffer than stock Comptech Adj. FSB and it's set on a super stiff position. I'm even able to dial in a little understeer. Mind you, if I feel any understeer, I think it's too much
Like people said above, if you want to run the same tire all around, then you will have to make up for the difference in stock tire stagger with some sort of suspension tuning.
I can't figure out if there's any advantage to it though. I guess you can rotate the tires but this calls for unmounting and remounting... yuck. I guess one advantage would (at least in stock class auto-x) is that you can further reduce body roll buy running your front sway bar extra stiff.
