Default Shift lights

Anyone here use shift lights, and if so what kind? Since I use my car on the street I don't really want anything like the Autometer ones. I am wondering if there is anything more subtle, if not necessarily elegant, that is nonetheless visible.

Thanks,

Guy

What do you want them to do? Tell you when to shift, or look bling?

I suppose that either way you could use Modifry's redline beeper module to drive the shift light.

Personally, I just use the beeper. Much more information than a single shift light because it beeps three times at fixed RPM intervals. And if you are actually driving the car, you can be looking where you are going and just hear the warning signals.

I second the recommendation for the Modifry redline beeper. It's not visible at all.

Well, I put the actual beeping part in a place where it is visible (right under the A/C controls) in order to be sure to be able to hear it while on the track. I can also stash it invisibly under the dash near the key cylinder. Got the idea from Tedster.

It seems like every instructor who rides along with me is impressed by the beeper. I know I had the same reaction the first time I heard it in action while riding with Ted. It's just so intuitive.

Invisible shift light with good heads up viewing

It fits perfectly in the little slot along the bottom of your windshield. It's invisible from outside the car but very visible to the driver.

I like it

Count me as a Modifry beeper fan... When out on the track I would rather use my ears than trying to adjust my eyes back into the cockpit.

can you hear those beepers with a loud exhaust and a helmet on? also you have all the noise from others cars in your ears as well.?

I don't know how loud the beepers are, but they would need to be fairly loud to rely on it 100%...

I don't have a loud exhaust, but I've never been unable to hear the beeper on the track when it is located where I described above. When it is tucked away behind the dash it is less audible. You could also use any actual beeper you want as long as it runs off the same voltage. So if it wasn't loud enough for you, you could get a louder one.

I could hear it in my Miata just fine, with the beeper mounted at knee level under the driver's side dash. Even with a helmet on and the stock muffler removed, I could hear it just fine.

I had trouble hearing the one in an S2000, with the beeper mounted on the passenger side.

You could wire the output to a relay and power something really loud like a car horn if you needed it to be louder Or you could run the wire to the rear bulkhead and stick the beeper to the center compartment so that it's right next to your head/shoulder.
