Default Shoes!!!

Ok, I'm going to the Derek Daly academy and have neglected to get some suitable footwear. Any suggestions for something thinner than tennis shoes that are suitable for the track that I can get within the next 3 days?

Thanks for any suggestions.

if you want something cheap, try wrestling shoes - if they are allowed at the school.

Here are photos of the Piloti shoes that I have. I wanted to buy the high top racing shoe from their website, but they said it is not available, and they have never produced it for sale. The racing shoe looks like it has a proper sole.

I believe this shoe is called a "Rally Shoe," but I'm not sure. In any case, as a driving shoe, it totally sucks! If you are going from a regular sneaker, (or a combat boot) to this shoe, it will be much better because the sole is thinner and more flexible than than the average sneaker, but it is nowhere near a true racing-type sole.

They are Nomex lined, and a nice looking suede shoe, but I would not recommend them for a driving school. They may have something else at piloti.com, but not all of the shoes there are available. -Pete

I agree with Schatten. If the school doesn't require fireproof gear, go for wrestling shoes. They have the same feel as the best racing shoes, and are also available in leather. There is also a much greater variety of styles available, compared to racing shoes.

If you go for racing shoes, No Fear makes FIA approved shoes. Other nice choices are Simpson, Ennesport, OMP, or Pyrotect.

Here are the shoes I use for street driving:

The problem with the real flexible shoes (driving or not) is that they suck for standing around for long periods in the paddock. The Piloti shoes do have decent support compared to some but a little bulk comes with that.

As a last resort, I would imagine that it's pretty common for people to show up with inappropriate shoes so it's likely they stock and sell racing shoes at the school or the track store (though probably premium brands at premium prices).

Wrestling shoes--if you can't beat 'em on the track, kick their ass afterwards!
