Default Short or Extended Lugs with Extended Studs?

Hey all,

I've been running extended ARP wheel studs with short open end lug nuts for 3 years now on my TT4 race car. I am building a full set of spare knuckles with new bearings and new studs (reusing hubs & knuckle from donor car). However, I want to get a consensus if other race car guys opt for extended lug nuts to pair with the extended open end studs to protect more of the threads instead of short studs? The big difference is weight. My short lugs are a fourth of the weight as extended lugs. What other advantages would extended open end studs have?

Cheers!

I think they make the wheels a bit easier to get back on, but hard to say how much. And I believe the original intent was to have more threads in the nut so it takes longer for one to spin off if it comes loose. I only have them on mine now because a friend was going back stock and really wanted to swap them with me (we swapped knuckles so it was easier.. .well other than the one that had the bad wheel bearing we ended up taking apart lol). So they were "free" other than my time which I would have spent helping him anyways if needed and he threw in an oil cooler setup off his car as well. Otherwise I likely never would have gone through the effort to be honest.
