Default Spoon Super Taikyu Wing Shape Question

Hello everybody!

Regarding Spoon's Super Taikyu wing, can you guys tell me why Spoon abandoned the 3DGT style wing for this one? What are the advantages to this type of shape vs the 3D shape?

Is this wing available / anyone used it on track?

Newest shape

Older 3D style

Thank you all.

first wing is higher in clean air therefore you dont want 3d profile, 2nd (old style) wing is not in clean air under the roof-line therefore you do want 3d profile

Neither has swan neck mounts. A properly working 3D wing is tricky because it is very dependent on the airflow over the roof. The assumption is the angle of attack in the center reflects the angle coming off the roof, and the sides have a direct flow. None of the cars pictured seem to have aggressive front downforce or a rear diffuser that moves the low pressure in front of the rear wheel centerline. Since a rear wing is capable of significant downforce, they are all able to get more than enough to balance the car. Their only penalty is a usually slight increase in drag. Judging from the cooling setup, none of the cars pictured aggressively dealt with drag.

You're still around Rob.ok? I remember following your build when I had my first S2000 nearly 10 years ago. Do you have the same S, or picking up a new one?

Hey Bro. I sure am. The S has been in storage for most of that time. I did however get the CA BAR to sign off on the engine swap which was fairly easy and only cost 9 bucks (plus I got free smog). I'm rebuilding the car into a serious track machine again so I've been shopping around for parts and trying to get my head around the new norms (SRC out TTX in and so on). Once I've got my bearings, the old thread will be revived with version 2.01. I just need to update suspension and aero package and I should be back out there.

Hey man! I was just a little curious about Spoons new aero package. I read on their blog that this new wing would be for sale along side the new aero bumper, but I guess that never happened.

I'd buy it though....
