Default Spring rate recommendations for my setup

R&Cers - I'd appreciate your recommendations on spring rates for my setup and intended use.

Dampers: new Koni Sports, single adjustable

Spring brand: TBD but most likely GC

Year:2003

Use: 90% track 10% getting to the track, HPDE and TT

Compliance desired: Only enough to keep the tires in contact with the track

Tires: RA1 or NT01 Current, 235/255 Future, 255 all around

Aero: Current, Hardtop Future, Hardtop and APR GTC-200

Camber: SPC ball joint camber thingy

Track surface: East cost tracks, kinda bumpy

Sway bar: Whiteline front bar, non adjustable

The recommended GC kit for track use on an S2000 is 380/340 or something. I'd prefer to go with a higher rate (up to the max for a stock Koni Sport) but wanted some guidance.

Thanks

Get the highest rate those dampers are rated for!

I'm on KW Clubsports at 570lb/in and they're still relatively soft for track use. I think many of the road course guys are in the mid-600 range. Auto-x guys are in the 800 range on the fronts, 700 on the rear.

That's one of the things I want to know, as I don't know the highest spring rate for Koni Sports. I have "heard" 500 but Tubedriver's suggestion seems to indicate 450.

Koni Sport can support 700lb/in.
I use 500 fr and 400 rear and I found those to be pretty soft
I going for 700 fr and 600 to 650 rear.
In a few year get your Koni revaled anyway at higer rate.

Can you get the info from Koni? Call up one of their main distributors and they should be able to find out the infomation for you.

thanks for your replies. I'll call Koni and post up any info I get.

Are any of you running a functional wing with 400# rear springs? It seems that the downforce may necessitate a higher spring rate.

Pure track cars start in the 900lb range and go up from there.

I used 900/950, and I've seen others use as high as 1200. I would think about 750 is the bare minimum for a dedicated track car.

500 is really light. (The Koni's are going to be the weak spot here as they are valved for really light springs).
