Stock autox question
I have a bone stock '00 and although I usually run a go kart at events, I sometimes run my S2000. I have Bridgestone RE050's on the car.
A few years ago, I was pretty competitive with the S2000. I'd won both class and even ftd a few times. Now I can't seem to do better than mid-pack or lower in stock class. Although driver skill is probably part of the problem, I'm really wondering if the car is just not as competitive as it used to be. I know I could do the r-compounds, sway bar and alignment mods and improve a lot, but I just was wondering what others thought about running stock in the S and how they are doing?

I would investigate what tires the cars above you were using. R-comps are worth 2+ seconds on an autocross course. I have a few Tour and Divisional trophies with my S on R-comps, but have only pulled off 1 FTD in 7 years of autocrossing the S. (BTW, check out my for sale thread in my signature if you want to move up to R-comps.)
Other drivers improving and tire technology improving. RE050s are mediocre at best. Posting a link to results would help. In some regions, competition is so fierce that being one second off the pace (due to tires) can bump you 15+ spots.
Also, if you were setting FTD on RE050s previously it probably was lack of competition more than anything else.

I was just curious what others running in this class are doing. I absolutely agree that changing to R-compounds would make a big difference. Right now my investment is in the kart and I am yet to do anything more to the S.
By the way, if you have an alignment done as described in the faq's, and you also drive the car on the street, what do you do between events? Do you align to street specs or leave it on autocross specs? Tire wear?

Tire wear isn't too bad. The inside edge on your fronts will wear a fair bit, but I go through 2 sets of rears for every set of fronts so when I put the new rears on I have the fronts flipped.
