Default STR CR or BSP AP1 shell (engine swapped)

With the boom in BSP recently I think this is a good topic to discuss, end result for each car cost about the same.

Pros and Cons, I'm interested in what everyone says.

STR CR, holds its resale.

I think the boom in BSP will be limited to 2-3 years.

Agreed. If you have any plans to sell the car later, you don't want to build up a BSP car. STR CR would always be my first choice.

You can buy an A-stock Cayman S for ~$30k.

I hope not, but if the BSP S2000 doesn't work out, there is always SSM. No S2000 is a safe bet when looking how frequently the SCCA switches cars/classes/rules that makes other cars obsolete. I hope BSP gains strong numbers and prevents the SCCA from messing with it. This S2000 will be my last planned build and I hope to eventually take it to SSM. If the S2000 becomes obsolete, I will have fun with it at local events and retire it from National events! With so many S2000s readily available and becoming more and more affordable, I think it would be in the SCCA's best intertest to find classes to keep this car competitive. After all the money spent on my old CR simply to have a Nationally competitive car, in the future I hope to avoid finding a rare and expensive car just top be competitive

Quick off the top of my head I came up with....

STR CR
Pros
- Better resale value
- Tires are cheaper
- Won’t break as many parts
- Easily driven to and from events
Cons
- Slower!!!!!!
- Doesn’t push you as a driver as much as a BSP car would

BSP AP1 (2.2 Engine swap)
Pros
- Faster, 1.5 seconds on a 60 second course (theoretically)
- Lighter
- More power
- More RAW race car “like”
- Pushes you as a driver, Likely to be a faster car then you are a driver for a while
- Win more Raw Time trophies (If your club does that)
- More WOW factor, adrenaline rush!
- May be a cheaper build!
Cons
- Break more parts
- Bad resale value if ever sold
- Tires are 3 times the cost and last 1/3 as long
- Need to trailer car or atleast use a tire trailer
- Could be SoL if you broke the car without a trailer on-site

If you're looking for faster and cheaper, get an F-mod!

And personally, I think an S2000 would need a turbo V6 to rock SSM. The 2L doesn't flow enough air to make the low-down torque that an RX7 does.

What!? That's crazy. That's like saying stock class doesn't push a driver as much as a SM driver. If anything I'd argue the less prep you can do to a car the more the driver part of the equation matters and the more you have to push.

Agree. That's like saying the ST Civic drivers are worse than the EP or FSP Civic drivers.

I feel its much harder to drive a faster car fast. If you were to take "fully prepped for the class" cars from each category, you would be more consistent with the slower cars and less consistent with the fast car. I have proven this theory with myself, but feel this would apply for most drivers. R-Compounds certainly help mask mistakes. STR was much harder for me than B-Stock because of less overall grip with the street tires. I predict that BSP will be harder than B-Stock, but not sure how it will compare to driving an STR car. I also strengthened my driving skills with my experience in STR. Hopefully I will continue to grow in BSP! Either way, the competition we had in STR will be difficult to duplicate...
