Post your tuning mods and approaches. Dyno plots? Basic engine setup to go along with the tuning?

Here is a good read that introduces all the basic concepts toward understand tuning.

Search google for a PDF using the words "AEM EFI Basics"

==================================================

Car: 2003 S2000 AP1

ECU: Stock
Tuning Method: GReddy Emanage Ultimate and Boomslang Harness
Dyno: Hub mounted Dyna Pack
Tuner: Tony at UMS Tuning, Tempe, AZ

Header: PLM
CAT: Berk like homemade HFC 200 cell/sq-in
CAT Back:OEM cut at Y with down pipe
Intake: K&N FIPK

Below is the result of tuning. All relavent information added as notes on the plot. See second plot for comparison with twin loop muffler installed.

Reasonable gains after bolt in mods. I wish I had a baseline before mods to see the overall gains from stock.

Ran an event yesterday and the increased torque made a difference for second gear pulling out of turns.

With muffler installed. Only small losses with this 93 dB compliant muffler which saves 9.5 lbs when removed.

Twin loop muffler shown below. See STR exhaust thread post #74 for more detail on this exhaust mod.

Hypertech tuner bumps rev limiter up 500rpm and lowers VTEC engagement 500rpm.Cheap seems to work fine, has a soft rev limiter so you can hold max revs.

I suppose this will be more settled later this week when Fastrack comes out and (presumably) includes the 2012 ECU rules.

Car: 2000 S2000 AP1

ECU: Stock
Tuning Method: APEXi NEO and Boomslang Harness
Dyno: no digital graph, sorry

Header: toda torqie-kun
CAT: Berk 70mm HFC
CAT Back:T1R 70r
INTAKE:K&N FIPK

Drops the vtec to 5k and gives a smooth vtec transition and some mid-rang. The issue with the NEO is you can only take out fuel, not add. Hopefully a rule change is in the making.

Fastrack is out:

Remove the Appendix F clarification under Street Touring titled “Emissions System”.
Change 14.10.F to read as follows:
“F. The engine management system parameters and operation may be modified only via the methods listed below.

These allowances also apply to forced induction cars, except that no changes to standard boost levels, intercoolers,
or boost controls are permitted. Boost changes indirectly resulting from allowed modifications are permissible, but
directly altering or modifying the boost or turbo controls, either mechanically or electronically, is strictly prohibited.
Traction control parameters may not be altered. Any standard OBD communications port functionality must remain.
Check Engine Lights (CEL) may be disabled via software. Alternate software maps which violate these restrictions
may not be present during competition, regardless of activation.
1. Reprogrammed ECU (via hardware and/or software) may be used in the standard housing
2. Supplementary (“Piggyback”) ECU may be used subject to the following restrictions:
a) Connects between the standard ECU and its wiring harness only.
b) Must be plug-compatible with the standard ECU (no splices).
3. Electronic components may be installed in-line between an engine’s sensors and ECU. These components
may alter the signal coming from the sensor in order to affect the ECU’s operation of the engine management
system. Example: fuel controllers that modify the signal coming from an airflow sensor.
4. Fuel pressure regulators may be replaced in lieu of electronic alterations to fuel system parameters. It is not
permitted to electronically modify the fuel system AND replace a fuel pressure regulator.
5. Ignition timing may be set at any point on factory adjustable distributor ignition systems.
6. VTEC controllers and other devices may be used which alter the timing of factory standard electronic variable
valve timing systems.”

What does this mean for those of us with pre-06 cars?

So a plug and play piggyback haltech fits the bill.

So, is this saying that the piggyback may control fuel/spark/vtec directly, as well as alter signals coming from the sensor?

mLeach 10-20-2011 02:54 PM

as I read it, the only restriction on the secondary ecu is that it must not render the original OBD2 port inoperable, it may not utilize traction control, it must be in between the harness and the original ecu, and that it may not be spliced. it does not specify what or how it controls anything.

So you are free to add an AEM EMS, Haltech, Megasquirt, E-Manage, or whatever.

josh7owens 10-20-2011 03:29 PM

Yup a haltech PS1000 piggy backed fits the bill! The only issue being the one current harness made on the market (awd) has issues according to Jeff Evans. He's still testing his kit and said in a PM the other day things should come together by next season hopefully.

The new pnp wouldn't be legal even though the two tuners do the same exact thing
