Rob, that sounds exciting, you're lucky to attend that event! Thanks for sharing, sounds like your impressions of the Rival were favorable. Any timed results/comparisons to the RS3?
Sorry no times were taken for any of the testing. I wish we would have at least taken out our stop watches. It was all feel based which was all positive compared to the other tires.
No worries, though I wonder why they wouldn't have made accomodations for timers; but definitely agree on the stop watches. Are you going back tomorrow? If so, perhaps you guys can figure out a stop watch solution. Direct timed results on the autocross course of the Rival vs RS3 and Z2 would be some great data to have. Thanks again for sharing!

Sorry just one day. Everyone is headed home, on the plane in Dallas now.

Agree, have to hold out for some true Autocross testing.

They are now listed on the Tire Rack web page.

TR Page for 255/40R17

255/40R17 pricing for four, shipping not included. Keep in mind that Tire Rack has an exclusive deal for the Dunlops and BFG Rivals.

RS3 = $620
ZII = $736
R1R = $768
Rival = $920
RE11 = $1020

Point of comparison for S2000 AP1 Stock Class (BS) 245/45R16

BFG R1S = $904
Kumho 710 = $996
Hoosier A6 = $1,064

I don't call that pricing competitive from an autocross perspective. I certainly understand if they have a business model they have to fulfill, but it's not autocross friendly for a street tire. I guess if the Rival 245 is competitive with other brands in 255 then at $756 it would not be too bad. Why such a big jump from 245 to 255 though? 245 RS3s are $608 and 255s $620. Other brands have similarly small increase.

Pricey but they look good. Glad to see yet another tire manufacturer offer something new though. Bridgestone's RE11A should be out early this year too and that also shows improvements over the previous tire. Only problem I can see with it is that price will still probably be $1000+

I wonder how long it is before Hankook decides to update the RS3?

So Street Touring rules state

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14.3 TIRES
Tires must meet the eligibility requirements of the Stock category with the following additional restrictions:
A. Tires must be mass-produced standard production tires designed for normal highway use on passenger cars. Low volume and/or spe- cialty tires will be specifically excluded below.
B. Tires may have section widths up to and including the following: STF, STC, STS, STR (AWD) – 225 mm
STX (AWD), STU (AWD) – 245 mm
STR (2WD) – 255 mm
STX (2WD) – 265 mm
STU (2WD) – 285 mm
C. Tires must have a minimum UTQG treadwear rating of 140 and a minimum molded tread depth greater than 7/32” as manufactured.
D. Tire models must not appear on the following list, which may be altered at any time by the SEB upon notification of the membership.
Pirelli P Zero Corsa
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to Tire Rack the BF Goodrich G-Force Rivals are at 7/32" tread depth.
Being that BFG and SCCA just extended their partnership through 2014, I imagine this tread legality will be .....fixed, somehow.

P.S 255/40 dropped to $211/tire from $230/tire

Thoughts?

The Rivals look like Victoracers to me. Cant wait to see these in person! Just as we have covered many times before in these forums, the street tires keep getting softer and faster, but the 140+ rating stays the same. The S2000 really needs a better tire for STR. I may have stayed if these were available last year!

Reports from the NOLA test indicate that the new BFGs wore significantly better than either the Toyo or the Hankooks, so while they seem to be faster, they don't appear wear faster.

The Rivals have a rating of 200 and were placed there to ensure they are not excluded from any event categories that include road tire and others out side of SCCA.

Someone on my local forum also pointed out the victoracer resemblance.
