Summit Point, a fine day for 5 S2000's
Great day to run the S2000's at FATT at Summit Point today. A bit windy and cold, but could have been worse for this time of the year. Some regulars, some new faces. Good to see new S2000's trying this out.
My oil filter loosening up streak hopefully is gone. The car ran fine. (Still, I opened the hood just before every run just to be sure the filter was tight).
Overall a great day to run the cars. Although some of us pushed the cars a bit more than optimal
(gregg, mstw, fess up
)
Also some photos ... (too bad I do not have the video of the interesting excursions these guys took)

Nice photos Alberto. Amazing how well that remote control for the camera works.
Although I am a prideful man, I am modest as well and know when to admit my mistakes. A horrible line thru Turn 9 (influenced by how many times I overtook cars coming out
), lifting slightly off the gas, and fear of repeating my incident there last year all contributed to my nice slide up and around the turn. No dust and dirt until I overcorrected and did a 180 to come to a stop just a few feet off the pavement. It really wasn't that bad an off.
As I pitted to clear my numskull, I apparently picked up a new nickname amongst the BSR folk, "Pigpen," since the dust was still floating around the interior close to a minute after my agricultural excursion.

Needless to say a little self-effacing humor is necessary in these situations (the car was marked w/ "Clean Me," "Spin Me," and "Off Road") and of course I'll be spending all day today w/ the vacuum cleaner.
But that was such a small part of the day. With each lap I continue to improve my lines, my entry and exit speeds, and most importantly my ability to recognize my mistakes and correct them.
Hopefully we'll hear from our Summit newbies as yesterday was their first time out at the Point or on a track.
BTW--the sound one hears when passing a Ferrari 355 (multiple times) is amazing. The sound one hears when passing a bone-stock Chevy Cavalier is not.

I almost forgot to take pictures. I gave my camera to a friend on one of the last runs and he took them for me from the start/finish tower. Too bad I did not think of this earlier, I could have taken photos of the other S2000's in the other group. Sorry guys, next time please remind me to keep the camera handy.

gregg: You are being too modest. You were flying with those Accura guys. I never saw you guys after the start.
Let's see you again next time. It will probably be next season for me... who knows, we might get a nice day in November.

Alberto-
NJTom2000 is coming down for the Nov.16th FATT and will be crashing at my place. It shouldn't be too much colder than yesterday.

I fess ... and also need to clarify ....
I spun out at turn 1 .... the rumor of me spinning out on the straight away is not true!!
I had a blast, I posted a long thread in the Mid-Atlantic forum about the event, no need to double post here, but man, it was fun and really beneficial.
restonS2000, nice photos man, "clean" passes you got there
Who is going for the NASA thing next weekend?

Looks like you guys had a really great time, I am definitely jealous. I am going to FATT in November, can't wait to get there as it will be my first time. I am a little confused and I hope you all can clear something up for me. I was under the impression that FATT was a one time class - once you've taken the inital class and passed muster for the instructors - you can go on the track during designated times without an instructor riding shotgun. Or - was it that you all have taken the class before and you were "allowed" to go out an play on the track?
Any clarity would be greatly appreciated - my head is still spinning from Fall Colors...
Thanks guys.

thanks for the quick reply, that cleared up my questions. So. I guess they keep a log or something of all your FATT appearances? I guess they observe you over time and you "graduate" from 1 to 2i to solo? I assume that the next time you come, you start off in the group that you last left? Sorry, I don't mean to be a pest, its just that their website isn't all that clear.
I'll be there on 11/30, perhaps we can go en masse next season....
