Default Summit Point - Pointers Needed

After being jerked around for over a month they finally let me into the Dec 5th FATT at Summit Point.

I have never been there and would appreciate any pointers from someone who has been there.

Glad to hear you can make it. I'll be out there instructing this Friday and will be more than willing to go out with you.

I'll be in a BSR jacket (then again, all the instructors will be ) and driving a yellow CRX.

Gregg, Maybe you can answer a question I forgot to ask.

When i was on the phone with Wendy she made a passing comment about having an instructor (I am in group 2 - don't know what that means).

My quesiton is: Do I have to go out with an instructor (I have never been there)?.

The reason for the question is that I usually take out the passenger seat so that I can take my spare set of wheels with me (no trailer). If I have to have the passenger seat in I have to do a little tinkering to get all spare 4 wheels in the car.

There are three run groups at a FATT: 1A, 1B, and 2. Drivers in groups 1A and 1B will almost without exception have instructors. Drivers in group 2 will have an instructor with them unless two different instructors have signed that driver off to go solo.

I'm sure you were placed in Group 2 based on your previous track experience, however, I would not recommend you going out solo on a track you have never driven and will be more than happy to show you the line. If you need a hand getting four tires crammed into the car w/ room for clothes, send a PM to NJTom2000. He's done it many a time and can probably give you a schematic.

Diego PM'ed me. I figured I'd post it here in case anyone else wanted to see. I know a lot of people out there fit 4 wheels/tires into the S. This is just the way I do it.

Prep.
1. Take out spare take, you don't need it, you're going to have 4 extra wheels with you anyway. This space then becomes usable for things like a small jack/numbers/etc
2. Take out the tray and tools in the bottom of the trunk. You can put the tools where the spare was if you want.
3. Put one rear wheel into the trunk as per the owners manual.
4. If you want to put anything in the passenger footwell, do it now. Once you have the 3 tires on the passenger seat you will not be able to reach the footwell.

Loading the reaming three wheels.
1. Put a blanket or towel onto the passenger seat and the passenger side dash.
2. Put the remaining rear tire and one front tire side by side on the passenger seat. What I mean is stand them up side by side as if they were going to roll forward.
3. I do the next steps with the top up and passenger window down.
4. Sit in the drivers seat and pull the two passenger side tires toward you so that they are almost at a 45 degree angle.
5. Get out and get the remaining front wheel. Then re-enter through the driver's door. You are going to place the wheel on top of the angled wheels.
6. Put the wheel on top of the other two and sit in the drivers seat. There should be clearance between the tire wheel on top and the soft top.
7. While seated in the drivers seat you want to return the two bottom wheels to their original position. Pull the bottom of the angled wheels toward you while pushing up top. You should end up with two wheels side by side, standing up with one wheel laying flat across the top. There should be minimal contact with the soft top.
8. Use cord or bungee cords to hold the wheels in place. I run bungees through all three wheels and then reach in from the open passenger window to tie the bungees around the door handle.
9. That's it. Put up the window and you are all set.

Have fun. Listen to Gregg, then do the opposite ;-) . Just kidding he knows that track. I've seen pictures of him with trophy girls after races at Summit.
