suspension questions
I have noticed that a lot of guys as they get more serious go to an adjustable coil-over setup for their suspension. Is this mostly because your S2000 is a street and track car? Do adjustable coil-over setups usually have springs with variable spring rates? Also, how do you decide how stiff is too stiff? (no penis jokes damnit!!
)
Also, I haven't seen much talk about scrub radi or changes do to wheel selection. I am under the impression that changing wheels sizes can change the scrub radi. How much does this change feel as opposed to the ability to still go fast or faster? I was reading about scrub radi and it seemed like a scrub radi of 0 isn't good because you lose feel, but a little positive scrub radi can be good for feel and not take away too much control. Anyone have some good diagrams of this crap!!
I am trying to learn about suspension and it seems like f-in black magic to me!!
Anyone know of a good resource that starts out slow and allows one to learn and not get overwhelmed?

MOST coilovers don't have variable (progressive) spring rates. They are usually linear.
Coilovers are a big help because they are adjustable in the shock damping as well as ride height.
What springs will work the best? That depends on you and your setup. Every driver drives the car a little differently and likes a different setting. Another thing to keep in mind is that the "ideal" suspension setup depends a lot on your mods. What kind of sway bar, what type/size tires, etc.
With respect to scrub radii, that's called Ackerman steering. This is where a good alignment comes in. Again, everything depends on how you like the car to feel.
Decide that first and then go after the mods.

Dood, u r trying way too hard....scrub radii!!!!
ya aa, mmaan.....coilovers are a-justable for ride height as well....
dooooood, that's amazing, ya man.
what about the angle of the dangle......spend more effort on this sport.

I for one agree with s2kpdx's post. I wish I knew the more detailed reasons why people slap coilover's on new cars before becoming aquainted to the stock suspension.
I see a post about someone putting HKS springs on thier car but I don't see any mention of spring rate relative to the stock springs or what change they were looking for when they decided to lower the car outside of the vauge "better handling" response.
I just wonder what you guys are looking for or what your thought processes are when you modify the suspension on your cars.
