Default T2 S2000 17" tire size options?

Guys, here's the rules for tires in T2:
"All cars are allowed a section increase or decrease of 10mm or 20mm (e.g., 195 may use 175, 185, 195, 205 or 215). All cars are allowed an aspect ratio increase or decrease of 5 or 10"

Stock size 04 sizes are 215/45/17 and 245/40/17. Have to use stock wheel sizes.

Choices seem to be:
Victoracer: 225/45/17 with 255/40/17
Ecsta 235/40/17 or 225/45/17 with 245/40/17
Hoosiers : 225/45/17 with 255/45/17

Don't particularly like the idea of 45's in the back because of making the gearing taller. Other R tires are not competitive at Nationals (Toyo RA1, Michilen PSC, etc..).

Anybody ever run some other type of tire 235 fr, 265 rear? Would that be the hot ticket if we could get Kumho to make them?

Ecsta opinions? I know on our showroom stock cars we can't get them to last at all but a T2 car would have -2 deg camber and not be overloading the front tires all time. Can you make them last 40minutes?

Come on guys, I know some of you have tried more than one tire size, even if you aren't SCCA racing.....

Any thoughts?

I've run an '00 with the 225/255-17 Victoracer combination on 17x7.5"fr/17x9"rr Volk Ce-28N's. Only other mods were shocks and a big front swaybar per Solo2 Stock-class rules. With the bigger-than-stock wheels/tires it still worked quite well, maintaining a similar balance but with better responsiveness and greater total grip.

I suspect either of the 225/255 Kumho or Hoosier combinations would work quite well for you, with the edge in ultimate performance going to the Hoosier. Be sure to get the R (Road Race) compounds; it used to be you could track the autocross (A) compound, but the new A3S04's don't hold up to the heat as well and would certainly go bye-bye in a 40 minute race.

All right.

I knew there had to be some experience out there. Thanks, Jason.

Anybody try 255/45s and notice the difference from 255/40s?

Maybe edit the message Subject to let everyone know this is for the MY04? It might get some more readers and more importantly - some folks who know...I'm with you...I want to know what "legal" tires people with 04s are running for competition.

Actually I already got SCCA to allow the 04 wheel size on prior models, see July FasTrack, so this applys to any T2 S2000. (hopefully T3 soon).
