Default T2 S2000 build progress

Monday the airbags, radio/speakers, & stock roll bars (6lbs ea) with seatbelts (4lbs ea) all came out.

Today it was A/C lines, condenser, & compressor. BTW, the service manual says you need to remove the alternator to get out the compressor but it will come out the bottom if you take out the little support bracket that is underneath it -- no need to remove anything else. Already had the proper length "A/C delete" belt thanks to S2ki R&C forum! Oh, also put in screen behind the bumper today to protect the radiator from flying debris.

End of the month it goes to Mark McMahan for a cage.

Anybody taken the A/C evaporator core out of the interior HVAC unit? It doesn't look like dash has to come out. Is that correct?

edit: spelling

I did it while stripping the car so I already had the dash out. but I don't think you can get it out w/o taking the dash off.

I left the dash in place when I took out the ac evap core. I still have the heater core and fan in the dash. I can't stand being cold, I guess....

It's an 2002 AH car that we are building for running at SCCA Nationals in Touring 2. It's an underdog to say the least. Let's see.... LS1 Camaros & Firebirds, 350Z, turbo Neon, GTO, CTS-V, E46M3, Evo, Sti, Mustang Cobra, Z4 3.0, Boxster S. Needless to say it's going to be a learning year with a fair amount of frustration. Tony Swan (C&D) is going to be running a 2004 car so we'll be able to get some good 2.0 vs 2.2L details, I think at the track the 2.2 is going to have the edge but we'll have to see now that the 2.0L car can run the 04+ wider wheels & ~5% lower gears ('04 tranny secondary output shaft). Depending on that, we may go 2.2 once were are do for a rebuild since I was able to get SCCA to add updating/backdating.

Some of the likely events are Grattan twice, MidOhio twice & BeaveRun. I'd really like to get to VIR but we'll see....

S2k does very well at Grattan, I think it may be less of an underdog than you think. i was running 1:32's in a 100% stock car on slightly corded ra1's. good luck!

Provided someone from the race team can actually drive a RWD car fast ]

Year and years of Civics, Integras, and Preludes don't help the situation. Jeremy's got an M3 so if anyone can do it...

Need to be able to run in the low 30s to keep up with the front runners.

That's where the mods come in. I would imagine good suspension, more rubber, and some weight savings will get you sub-1:30's. If a race prepped car can't pull 3 seconds on a street car, something's wrong with the prep;0.

I will say it again though that Grattan is the S2k track at other courses the car may not be quite as competitive. At Road America, for example, it was way way way underpowered.

Dampers (not springs), tires & brake pads are basically the only things we are allowed in T2. Minimum weight is 2830 since the full interior has to be kept in Touring.

But we'll see; should make it Grattan twice this year for both of the Nationals. It's the other tracks that I'm more worried about.
